  • Summary: The NHL franchise that has won 19 sports game of the year awards over the past two years begins a new era with gameplay innovations that promise to deliver a new standard of toughness, the emotion of playoff hockey on the ice and in the arena, and over 200 gameplay refinements that replicate the skill and finesse that every fan sees throughout the NHL playoffs. A new first-person fighting engine enables players to trade punches with an NHL tough guy. Feel what its like to be on the ice in the skates of an NHL player to throw and dodge punches. Grab and tug an opponent's jersey to land a punch that ignites the fans and sparks your team to victory. Challenge a skill player and an opposing team tough guy will step in to settle the score. On ice toughness and intimidation is taken to a new level in NHL 10 where winning one-on-one battles for possession of the puck along the boards becomes a test of will and skill. Utilizing an all-new board physics engine, players can use their body to shield the puck on the boards and then kick-pass it to teammates. Bigger, stronger players pin opponents to the boards while fanatical fans bang on the glass, just like real life. Fore-check defenders, pressure the puck and finish checks to intimidate your opponent into mistakes. Players fatigue, bobble passes, and avoid collisions under threat of constant physical pressure. Inspire teammates, ignite the fans and change the momentum of a game by instigating scrums, drawing penalties, and mixing it up - all after the referee blows the whistle! [Electronic Arts] Expand

  1. A nearly flawless title; only the most cynical and jaded gamers will take issue with any of the game’s extremely minor problems.
  2. EA deserves kudos for recognizing what worked well in the brilliant NHL 09 title, and making slight, smart tweaks and additions for the spectacular NHL 10. This one has the legs to keep you very busy until next year's inevitable NHL 11.
  3. EA's hat trick that started with NHL 08 is complete now with another mightily impressive offering here with NHL 10. Long time hockey fan or newcomer, look no further for the top NHL experience than NHL 10.
  4. From the veteran to the rookie sports fan, there is a massive amount to enjoy in this game. Any hockey fan should buy this game immediately, and be prepared to not let it out of their sights for a long time to come.

NHL 10 is a great hockey game, don’t get me wrong. Nothing is a bad or poor choice that even comes close to ruining the experience, but there could have been more done to expand the core gameplay and offering of modes.
  6. Our expectations for NHL 10 might have been a little high given the success of NHL 09. This unfortunately sets up NHL 10 to be a minor let down even before it has left the bench. Well, NHL 10 isn’t a let down by any means, but its also not going to be placed in the same regard as last years skater.
  7. Best virtual ice hockey game on the market. Period. Same as FIFA 10 new NHL game makes next step toward realism and there is no other hockey game worth trying. [Oct 2009]

When it comes down to it, this is THE best hockey game of all time. NHL 09 kicked off Be a Pro mode, a well tuned skill stick, online leagues and many more features that made it the best hockey game last year. NHL 10 fine tunes every detail that was lacking to make it far better to any hockey fan. The game is significantly more "bad ass" than previous editions of the game. Forechecking wears down opponents. Fights will give the winning team a boost and get the crowd more excited. You can start scrums and fights after the play and be a real "NHL tough guy" which is the games more friendly version of "enforcer". Face wash an opponent to get under there skin and intimidate them. Passing has been updated so it feels like you have more control than just pressing a button. The bottom line is that if you want the best hockey game on the market, it's NHL 10. Don't go anywhere else with your money. Expand

How is this game getting an 89?? This is by far the BEST hockey game ever made and it's a clear cut to be in the 90's... this is outrageous! EA deserves all the credit in the world on this title, they have made something outstanding. HATS OFF TO YOU EA!!! Expand

By far the best Ice Hockey sim ever made on the Xbox 360 and any console for that matter.

The best sports game, gets just a little better. I love the series and I love NHL09. The game was near perfect so all the minor but great enhancements just make the game better. If they did nothing more than tweek the AI this year it still would have been worth $60 for me. Expand

Every aspect of this game is flawed. Major issues that existed in NHL09 are still present in NHL10. This is by far, one of the worst NHL releases by EA to date. Expand

Sure it's fun for Hockey fans, but for the rest of the gaming community, no dice!
