At any rate, if you have any interest in hockey games whatsoever, then you probably already own this, but if you don’t, go out and get a copy – you’ll have an absolute blast.

EA Canada has smashed the puck right into the back of the net once again with NHL 14, providing masses of content, unparalleled gameplay and the usual superb presentation you expect from an EA Sports game. It's perhaps not as big a leap forward over NHL 13 as you'd hope, but regardless, NHL 14 is a winner once again.

Even though NHL 14 isn't a huge step forward for the franchise it builds upon the steps that its predecessor has taken and delivers a satisfying ice hockey-experience, that is definitely enhanced by the new collision physics, which make NHL 14 a rather more visceral game.

There is plenty in NHL 14 that will satisfy each and every fan out there, and in the end that should be the ultimate goal.

It’s been some time since I’ve enjoyed an NHL game as much as this one – regardless of your interest in hockey, you’ll find that NHL 14 is the best hockey simulator available and a blast to play.

It's a confident entry in the series that makes tweaks in all the right places, but you feel that they're holding back--that they're saving their 1st rounders for a next-gen debut.

The new features brought to the table don't add enough over what was available in NHL 13, making this a dubious buy for anyone who still has last year's game and can live without the crushing new hits and more widespread fisticuffs.

I have dreams about this game. It is incredible. The way I can glide so gracefully using EA's new engine makes me tingle inside. The new deke, deke, shoot feature is incredible. EA if you are reading this. I love you. Expand

EA Sports did not risk much this year, creating a virtually similar hockey experience. I love the physics updates and the new fighting mechanics, and skating on defense feels much more fluid. Overall, the game is a large patch to NHL 13, which is nowhere near a bad thing as that was the best game at the time.

Pros: Good improvements, fun fighting, new be a pro mode

Cons: Can feel stale if you were an active NHL 13 player, no new presentation

This game is the best NHL game there is, but at the same time it feels bit of lazy effort. New hitting and fighting engines are by far the best improvements in this iteration, however, there seem to be lot of content in the game that seems quite pointless and shallow, such as the Live the Life mode. I have never understood the point of Hockey Ultimate Team mode as anything else than an attempt to grab more money from people who have purchased the game. There also silly graphical mistakes that are still in the game from the previous iterations, seeing your players switching places at the bench in fast robotic fashion kills the immersion of reality quickly. Also, why does Teemu Selanne carry that silly helmet (which he does not use in RL) from one NHL game to another? The way how the developers have assigned attributes to new players seems completely wrong as well, as this is true for every NHL game release so far. Being a rookie in the NHL does not mean that you are automatically a worse player than every NHL veteran. I'm keen to see the next-gen iterations of this great franchise, I just hope that some common sense would be applied to microtransactions and the game modes that seem to revolve around grabbing more money from people who paid the full price for a video game. I wouldn't go as far as saying its the worse game in the world but for some reason I expected much more from EA this year than the following years.
The enforcer engine is pretty cool at the start. But it does get annoying after a while especially when your playing HUT and your best player lays a hit and gets into a fight over it. It gets annoying there should be an option where you can opt out of a fight but instead you get jumped.
HUT and Be A GM has been by far my favorite, its what keeps me playing the NHL games.
Live the Life, played 40ish games, and I got bored. Not really much to do. Every now and then you get interviews which get boring to do since there are only like 20 different questions you get asked.
EASHL is the same as NHL 13. Can't really complain or praise.
NHL 94, good addition gives that arcadey feel to the game.
The game speed is also a bit slow for my liking but that can be adjusted with sliders.
All in All this game gets a solid 5.

In NHL 14 i get so frustrated because of various reasons. First of all, this annoys me the most, is that when playing against another team whether multi or single player most of the time it doesn't matter how many shots you have taken on goal because sometimes the goalie is just an unreal brick wall. He will not let anything through from one timers to deke. It is simply based on luck based on my gaming experience how many goals you will score in a game. Second, this game is all about hitting. On every play there will plenty of big hits and after some big hits the option to fight shows. This is not realistic at all, you do see hits in real NHL games but not as many as this, not even close. For me, it feels like an arcade game in which your objective is to annihilate other players on the ice. Nhl 13 to 14 went from okay to bad. I mean nhl 14 took away the purpose of the game which is to try to win and changed it to hurting the other players. Anyways another reason why it feels horrible is because when you are the better team and are winning, the game, i guess, try to makes it fair by letting the cpu on your team take penalties constantly and you just start wondering,"what the heck is going on". everything about this game sets me off, NHL 13 was by far the worst game ever made, then this NHL 14 is pretty damm close. seems like every game i outplay the computer 10 minutes to attact to their 2-3 minutes, out shoot them 25-30 to 6 and lose most games 4-1 to 5-1 even with the goalies ratings changed to 99! this is getting old, Honestly the skating in this game is still god awful…. the dump and chases are awful as computer picks up the puck %90 of the time anyways and scores, even while your man is back. I even notice behind the play crap thats annoying, example…. you might have a man covered, there guy might move the puck to the next, so computer switches your player……. now he makes the play back to that guy you had covered, and your player who had him covered suddenly dozes off to go pick his nose in the corner or somthing leaving them wide open goals…. another is 2 or 3 on ones, players just doze off for no reason! its the stuff behind the scenes that are annoying, almost like watchin kids novice house league hockey. I dont mind the fighting but for no reason after big hits? boring, or when you want heavy weights to fight then all of a sudden is sam gagne fighting brian mcggratton? get real. quite amazing their lil bots pick up rebounds for open net goals 24-7, while you might get 1 outta 100 rebounds but buddy shoots it 1000 miles wide or his stick breaks everytime…. rittte. why is it every time you poke a puck of their stick or anything, it goes to their wide open man for goals every time or they just come out with the pick. the computer goes offside on purpose to get your top line off the ice (gets old) and also the net falls off its pegs way too often.....…. Things this game needs are hire fire coaches (each coach plays their own strategy) should be able to hire fire gms, should have olympics or world championships of hockey during gm mode and should be able to overide trades. Pre-season on gm mode you should be able to pick who you wanna play against in ANY league. Allstar games should not be based on ratings, but instead should be based on statistics as well as contracts. anybody drafted 1st overall to top 5 should be rated close to 80 and ready for nhl (brutal when first pick overall is rated 54, 2.5 star potential and takes 10 seasons just get get his rating close to 80-85), should be able to customize jerseys during gm mode and should be able to relocate clubs or add/subtract teams to spice things up.....HONESTLY THIS GAME ISNT EVEN FUN FOR KIDS BECAUSE ITS WAY TOO COMPLICATED FOR MOST, NOT FUN FOR THEM. The game is good unless you are a hardcore fan and put some real time into it. Then the constant computer errors and goalie problems drive you insane. How many times have we seen things that make no sense. Computer teammates race you to the puck just to skate in front of his own net, turn it over and ur down. Then momentum switches and people can do whatever they want. Ur down 3-0. Im in division one. I have a good club. I hate your game. Most problems ive ever had with any game ever. Expand
