  • Summary: Taking gamers as close to war as they'll ever want to get, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is the much anticipated return of the genre-defining military conflict simulator. Set to deliver the total combat experience, Flashpoint: Dragon Rising challenges players to survive the chaos and rapidly evolving situations of modern warfare in a new contemporary theatre. Players experience the intensity, diversity and claustrophobia of a modern conflict from the unique perspectives of an infantry marine, a helicopter pilot, a Special Forces officer or a tank commander, each engaged against the full force of the Chinese PLA on a scale never previously experienced in a military action title. Gameplay simulates an immense conflict between advanced forces and provides unparalleled scope with different military disciplines, vehicles and equipment for players to utilize. [Codemasters] Expand

  1. It is clear that despite being a slick, atmospheric and incredibly well-paced shooter, Dragon Rising will be doomed to obscurity outside of the series core fan base when Modern Warfare 2 drops next month. That said, this is definitely worth seeking out if you are serious about your shooters.
  2. If you're looking for a more tactical war, this will satisfy, but it's not for everyone. [Dec 2009, p.74]
  3. There is, however, just enough range between its difficulties to appease both ends of the spectrum: those who want an unflinching recreation of island-based warfare, and those who want a manageable, mostly enjoyable military videogame. But its mild shortcomings ensure that, until Codemasters can fill its framework with a little more imagination and purpose, neither group will come away fanatical about the effort.

This is very refreshing to play compared to all the arcadey shooters that are out there. If you love war games but want something more realistic, get this game! Expand

  2. I thought this game was supposed to be a military combat simulator, but actually it's some kind of military tedious walking simulator, which is cool too, if you're into that sort of thing. I believe the game designers wanted to create a game with a realistic interpretation of what it would be like if a war was fought between a bunch of complete idiots, and in that manner, they excel. In real life, if you're one guy in command of three other guys who have serious brain damage, you're probably going to lose, right? That's exactly what happens in this game! So real. Expand

A picky "professionals only" experience where youre expected to act like you really would if you were there even though youve been denied the ability you would have if you were. Its obviously been designed for the ruthlessly strict world of the PC sim where fun is puzzlingly considered "unprofessional" and "likely to get you killed". Why on earth theyd port it to a platform designed for entertainment is as batty as crafting the dirtiest joke known to mankind and airing it during dinner with the pope! Completely out of pace and overly ignorant of purpose. Save yourself some money and just go sign up for basic training where you can have burly, sneering jugheads telling you "youre doing it wrong" from dawn till dusk while suffering every soul shattering minute the games supporters seem to fetishise! Go forth and get shot! Expand
