The platforming can be tough at times and the camera only makes thing worse. The poor story and voice acting, straight out of a Saturday morning cartoon, will alienate the older audience, too, which really leaves Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures with no real market – which is a shame, as some of the ideas and platforming sections made for some of the best fun I’ve had in years.

As a game addressed to kids, it is obviously a great choice. However, those looking for a challenging platformer or a deeper experience won't find it here.

We hoped for a great return of PAC-MAN World style adventures, but Namco disappointed us with a generic, imprecise and quickly boring experience.

It isn't a complete mess, but it's hard to imagine just who it was created for. [Christmas 2013, p.107]

Even though this new adventure of Pac-Man is targeted towards a younger audience, due to its bad design it can be frustrating and extremely difficult without any kind of real payoff to the gamer.

As bland and unmemorable as 3D platforming gets, and clearly not a Pac-Man game at all – just a cynical piece of tie-in merchandise.

For all its flaws and the questionable attempts to modernise the Pac-Man format, you can’t fault Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures for being a run-of-the-mill, inoffensive (except for the biting) platformer.

An unspoken masterpiece which will stand throughout the rest of time.

Pac-Man and the Ghostly adventures truly is a brilliant, brilliant
game. Never in my life have I experienced such a marvelous tale of love, anguish, beauty, horror, and such an inspiring viewpoint of the human condition, in any shape or form.

Pac-Man and the Ghostly adventures is like a fine wine, with only a certain elegance and grace, it only gets better throughout the course of time. I'm not going to spoil anything by telling you that the controls are so fluent and natural the fine line between you and Pac-Man feels nonexistent, so instead I'll tell you that the game ends with the mysterious figure who stalks you for most of the game is actually Clyde, and he teams up with you in the final fight to stop the GHOST organization.

The atmosphere and story of this game this game provides you is truly unimaginable by any caliber. The outspoken morals of this game have such insight and depth, it truly changed my life. Along the way, Pac-Man provides towering and outspoken lessons, examples being : "clean your room and make your parents proud, kids", "don't follow the strange ghosts that hide under your bed, kiddies", and who could not forget "resist sin and corruption; defeat the patriarchy!"

PMatGA is truly riveting, and has changed the way I live. I now set aside an extra table on Sunday evenings, so Pac-Man can join in with my family as we eat our sacred meals of fried cheeto sandwiches.

Decent adventure platformer in an era when these are rare...

It's a shame to see so many media reviews question who this game is created
    for. Me, that's who!
In reality it's clear the game is mainly marketed at children who are watching the animated series; if reviewers think the game is too hard for children they are underestimating them. When I go back to some of the Spectrum and Master System games I used to play, in a time when arcade 'pay more money or gameover' ruled the gaming world, I realise just how hard some of the games I used to play as a child were.

Adventure platformers are a rare thing now. Heck, in the N64's generation they were pretty much the mainstream genre (Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie & Tooie, DK64, Mystical Ninja et al). The huge worlds are probably deemed too time consuming to develop nowadays.
Pacman and the Ghostly Adventures stands as a polished, colourful example in a time starved of such games. It doesn't really offer anything new, but it does offer challenge and variety and plenty of fun. The graphics are sharp and colourful, the music ranges from chirpy, catchy tunes to epic orchestral pieces and there is plenty of content. The bonus levels offer the greater challenge and I found them to be the most fun.
Also, I had no problems with the camera. If you choose to use the right stick to take control the auto camera may take a back seat for a brief while, but I tend to use manual controls to constantly tweak the camera in these sorts of games any way. Thankfully it was easy to in this one.

If you like adventure platformers, I highly recommend giving this a try, especially given the low asking price.

I came into this game expecting more of an old-school gaming experience, and I stumbled into something very different. This is a 3rd person action/platformer. Any connection to Pac-Man appears to just be tacked on. It's like someone made a kid's game and decided that, to increase the appeal of the game, he should use Pac-Man. That being said, it's a very competent platformer. There's a decent share of cheap deaths, and sometimes the cameras and controls can be a bothersome, but it's actually pretty fun. It's certainly not as good as Psychonauts, but a lot of the gameplay felt similar. I wouldn't recommend spending $40 on it, but if you can get it for $20, there are certainly worse ways to spend your afternoon. Expand

I’m putting this out there now, I haven’t nor do I
intend on seeing the TV series this is based on. I genuinely don’t think I am young/stoned enough to thoroughly enjoy it plus I’m very much of the opinion that old-school game characters should never be given voices. It upset me enough when Sonic was made into a radical skateboarding teenager I don’t wish to see PAC-MAN defiled with the same brush. All he wants to do is eat ghosts and bang Ms. PAC-MAN, is that really too much to ask??

When the game kicks off it seems to lull you into a false sense of security because it starts with the original PAC-MAN theme which should be considered a classic of modern music. Unfortunately this soon degrades into, well I don’t even know what it was but it was insane and it made me feel like I was on a bad trip. This is not what I want from my videogames! As the actual game begins you are introduced to some of the main characters, now to the young players of the game who watch the show this will probably mean more but to anyone who hasn’t this was honestly one of the most painful and lazily written pieces of scripting I have ever come across. Let me give you a quick run down of the story:

Pacopolis is under attack by the evil “Betrayus” who has launched a ghost attack on the city. They may have given a motive but for the life of me I can’t remember what it was and after playing through the game I’m genuinely none the wiser…

With the intricate and mind-bending storyline out of the way you are let loose to actually play the game. Congratulations, after 5 minutes of play time you have practically covered all there is on offer. You run around, you eat ghosts and keep their eyes (creepy!!), every now and then you pick up a power berry which gives you temporary super powers (more on this in a bit), you eat more ghosts, you reach the fruit at the end, PAC-MAN burps up all the eyes he’s devoured through the level, you go to the next level. I wish I could say that I was being overly pedantic but unfortunately this is all there is to the main game! There is the option of doing extra bonus levels along the way but they play out exactly the the regular ones except there’s a coin at the end instead of fruit. Woop…

Now the last thing we need to discuss and I need to get this out there. I for one love comedy and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with throwing the odd pun around here and there but my lord! The sheer amount of puns that you are assaulted with in this game goes beyond reasonable levels and moves into the realm of a comedian having a mental breakdown while on crack! Let me give you some of the personal low points I witnessed:

The Ice Power Up turns you into “Ice-PAC”
When you freeze a ghost it shouts “not cool, oh wait…”
When you turn into balloon PAC and inflate he says “I have an inflated opinion of myself”
When you turn into Magnet PAC he says “I’m feeling magnetic”

I need to stop there because I can feel my will to live draining through my fingers with every key pressed…
