The Wii version is probably the ultimate version of Resident Evil 4, but this version isn't too shabby.
  2. Oct 10, 2011
In the end, Resident Evil 4 HD brings back one of the greatest games of the last generation and brings it back with style. While the graphical improvements could have been better, the game itself still plays and looks better than ever. And even with a slightly high £15.99/$19.99 price tag, it's a game that previous fans will be happy to re-visit and new players will be happy to experience.

It is great that Xbox 360 and PS3 owners can now experience Resident Evil 4 but it is a shame that more effort was not put into it to make it stand out. As it is, there is really no reason for this version to exist as it does not bring anything new to the package.
  4. Sep 26, 2011
The excellently crafted encounters, tons of extras and story are well worth the price of admission.
  5. Sep 22, 2011
Even after six years, this is still one of the best games out there, and it has aged ridiculously well.
  6. Sep 20, 2011
The updated visuals aren't mind-blowing, but they present the best way to return to this already stellar game. If you somehow missed out on Resident Evil 4 when it turned heads on the GameCube, this is the perfect time to give it a download and see what all the fuss is about.

It is the same great game we enjoyed six years ago, but visually upgraded. Its gameplay hasn't aged, and its levels are still varied and thrilling. We only miss a retail edition including this game and Code Veronica HD, just like in Japan, as the digital download can be considered pricey by many players.

If you think Resident Evil 4 is dated, then you're a heathen. It's still as fresh now as it's ever been, although you may have to adjust to the control system which is showing its age. More bonus content would have been nice, but the chance to revisit a bona-fide modern classic is massively welcome. Welcome to Resident Evil 4 HD, stranger! You're going to love it all over again.

With an adventure so far unmatched for memorable moments and constant thrills, the game is truly one of a kind.
  10. Oct 31, 2011
Resident Evil 4 is still an unsurpassed masterpiece on the 360, but the only reason you should still buy it is if you don't already own it on another console, or if you really want to see the game in HD. If you don't have it or have never played it, though, go get RE4 now--you owe it to yourself as a gamer.
  11. Oct 16, 2011
For those who have played the game countless times on either the PS2 or the Wii, there's really no point in owning this version unless you're a super fan of the series or this entry in particular. However, if you've never tried the game before or owned systems that didn't get Resident Evil 4 iterations in the past, this is a great time to get the game.
  12. Oct 4, 2011
Resident Evil 4 was an incredible game in 2005, and surprise surprise, it's still an incredible game in 2011. Graphics and controls have predictably tarnished with time, but the gameplay is still as sterling as ever.
  13. Oct 3, 2011
If you're a Resident Evil 4 veteran that has played through its many reissues over the years, there's not really much to be impressed by this release on the current-gen consoles. Even so, Resident Evil 4 is still a terrifying ride, especially if you missed it the first time around and would like to experience one of the most influential games from the past decade.
  14. Oct 3, 2011
It's well worth the hefty XBLA asking price, and if you don't already own this on any of its other platforms, or just want to relive the experience in glorious HD, Resident Evil 4 should be high on your "must play" list.
  15. Oct 3, 2011
Capcom basically had no chance of living up to this with future iterations. It was too good, too ahead of its time.
  16. Oct 2, 2011
This is still Resident Evil 4. The mechanics are still great, the art and score are still mesmerizing. If you have the $20 to spare and want the convenience of a digital download, it's worth grabbing.
  17. Sep 28, 2011
If you somehow never played RE4 on the GameCube or PS2 then you owe it to yourself to download this game right now. It doesn't matter if the graphics could have been a little, tiny bit better because the gameplay is something that cannot be improved. This is the epitome of game design and a truly awe-inspiring masterpiece.
  18. Sep 26, 2011
RE 4 is one of those games that could be re-released every five to ten years and still be as good and as important as it was the first go around.
  19. Sep 26, 2011
It's price is too high and it offers almost anything for those who played it on Gamecube or PS2. If you've never played it, though, maybe you should do so with the Wii version, which added a great use of the Wiimote.
  20. Sep 26, 2011
Resident Evil 4 HD is not an HD remix, is a simple cut and paste of the PC version. For that price gamers deserve a lot more. Anyhow, the game stil rocks, but it is a little bit aged with some mechanics that, today, can be frustrating.
  21. Sep 23, 2011
If nothing else you're getting one of the best games from last-gen on current gen consoles, and the HD upscaling looks fantastic.
  22. Sep 21, 2011
If you're not necessarily a fan of the series or haven't yet played Resident Evil 4, this is arguably the best the franchise has to offer, and the slick new look brings it closer to what we've come to expect visually from games this generation. Resident Evil 4 HD isn't a perfect port, but it offers a ton of content for a budget price.
  23. Sep 21, 2011
Still one of the best action games ever made, but this is far from the definitive version and may actually be the worst.
  24. Sep 21, 2011
You'll especially enjoy the additional "Separate Ways" missions featuring Ada Wong, the spicy Chinese secret agent who manages to kick ass without ever ripping her slinky, split-leg wardrobe. Just don't expect anything brand new, aside from Achievements, Trophies and a return to the GameCube's difficulty setting.

    Quotation forthcoming.
  26. Sep 21, 2011
A true killer app when it was released on the GameCube in 2005, Resident Evil 4 was a decisive take on the series, and on the action genre as a whole.
  27. Sep 21, 2011
HD edition of Resident Evil 4 retains all the qualities of the original... probably the best Resident Evil title.
  28. Sep 21, 2011
Experiencing Resident 4 HD, everything is as it ever was. The visual upgrade is well received, and the game's narrative is as terrifying and enticing as ever. Capcom have played this one safe, as it would have been nice to see them try and mix things up with a new inventory system.

This game is a testament to Capcom's genre mastery, and it's as incredible now as it's ever been. [Nov 2011, p.85]

There aren't news or extras in a videogame of 2005 that does not display much better and costs 20 dolars/euros. It is essential for those who did not play at the time, six years ago.

While the opening chapter proved to be a lesson in re-learning how to play, once it all clicked again it became apparent just how much I love Capcom's highly-celebrated game. For me it's easily the best Resident Evil title, and an absolute must-buy for anyone interested in action or horror. Resident Evil 4 remains one of the greats.
  32. Sep 19, 2011
Resident Evil 4 is still an outstanding shooter, but as I keep re-iterating with these recent high-def rereleases, your mileage is bound to vary.
  33. Sep 19, 2011
Resident Evil 4 is still a brilliant game, but this HD version is not what we were dreaming of: it's just an upscaled version of the GameCube edition of "Resi 4". After 6 years of loyalty, we deserved something better from Capcom.

Should give it a lot better score but I guess Capcom does not understand what High Definition remake means besides putting it in title. ThisShould give it a lot better score but I guess Capcom does not understand what High Definition remake means besides putting it in title. This game is a simple Gamecube port that uses up-scaling which makes it look a lot worse in many areas than predecessor, there is completely nothing done to the title to make it visually appealing or feel fresh. People who have RE4 on other systems stick 2 it because you're not getting anything new or better here and those who think about getting it... well I rather wait for some kinda sale considering you can get this title way below $20 Full Review »

It redefined an entire genre and paved the way for its modern contemporaries, a la Gears of War. It's good.

Now that's out of the way, this port is absolutely shocking. I, like a lot of die-hard Resi fans - though RE4 is probably one of our least favourites because we really quite like the horrendous voice acting and treacle-control of the original PSone classics - have been eagerly anticipating RE4HD.

Disappointed doesn't begin to cut it. First of all, this isn't, contrary to popular belief, an upscaled version of the Gamecube original. If it were, it might not look so awful. No, even worse, it's an upscaled version of the vastly inferior PlayStation 2 port. That would be the version that was heavily compressed, both in its visuals and its audio, to fit on to one DVD. As if that ever mattered to anyone.

Not only does the increased resolution make already below-par textures look a hundred times worse, cut scenes are pre-rendered, making them look like grainy low-quality MPEGs (which is basically what they are) and don't represent any character costume changes. Not a big deal you may say but let's be honest; 7 years on, with the advances in gaming technology, this should be an already impressive title refined to perfection with no flaws, nothing missing, no bits hanging off if you will. If you've only ever played the PS2 version this will blow your mind. Those with the Gamecube, or better yet the Wii version, stick to what you know.
