An enjoyable Spin-Off with 4 players co-op campaign, lots of multiplayer modes and great fanservice. Graphics and AI could be better.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is a fun game that is simply buried under too much to be really great.

The game has lots of flaws but it's hard to overlook the fact that during a dozen or so hours I had fun. This imperfect collection of ideas has that elusive element of satisfactory gameplay. I can recommend it to gamers with co-op partners that know that it's just a shooter set in a familiar universe.

None of it feels much like Resident Evil. [Issue#84, p.85]

An awkward and clumsy attempt to bring RE fans back to Raccoon City, failing in graphics, gameplay and general mood.

A game that doesn't do justice to the name "Resident Evil". It's full of bugs. It's boring. It's a bad, bad game.

The intelligent use of horror, intensity, and most importantly, subtleness has gone. While this game is only a diversion until Resident Evil 6 arrives, Capcom have done an amazingly awful job. Resident Evil used to be the trendsetter, the series everyone looked up to, now its identity has been de-constructed in a major way.

This is not a survival horror, its a 3rd person squad based RE universe game. That being said its fun, the problems some sites are saying (IGN) or not as bad as they make them. Its a nice step in another direction and I plan to enjoy for a while. Expand

Don't Believe what the critics say, its a good game all in all. there are a few bugs here and there, but nothing that can't be a fixed with a quick patch. the game play is steady and sometimes challenging on the higher difficulties. its a good squad shooter to play with some friends. honestly i like the game because of the bigger arsenal and the ability's you can pick up through the game. I wanted to like this game. I really did. The concept is extremely cool, but the execution is downright sloppy. "Operation Raccoon City" is like a blend of "Gears of War" and "Left 4 Dead". If only it played as good as either franchise. Unfortunately, the developers at Slant Six (PSP's SOCOM) managed to squeeze out only a fraction of fun with ORC. The game takes place during the events of "Resident Evil 2" but is told through the perspective of the bad guys. While a biohazard outbreak occurs in Raccoon City, a group of Umbrella operatives are sent into the "hot zone" to dispose evidence of the company's involvement. The team encounters cop Leon S. Kennedy , groups of Umbrella mercenaries and plenty of zombies along the way. Playing the campaign online is the best way to experience it since horrible friendly A.I. all but ruins the single player mode. Glitches and poor game design also hurt the campaign which has good moments, but is ultimately uninspired. The competitive modes aren't too interesting either and suffer from balance issues. "Raccoon City" isn't a total loss due to some good ideas and some decent moments, but it could've been a great co-op game. Too bad. Expand

You want to know what this is? It's basically a generic, boring third-person shooter with the Resident Evil name and characters. It's like a terrible fan-fiction. The game plays fine, but it's riddled with bugs, terrible glitches and the pacing of a full grown man with an IQ of 30. If you want to play an average third-person shooter go ahead! But it's a waste of $60. I already traded it in and Gamestop only gave me $27.50. WOW. Expand

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City takes you back to the RE: 2 story and setting during the initial outbreak in Raccoon City but you take the controls of Umbrella Spec Ops tasked to clean up this mess and cover up the incident. Sounds great right? That's what i thought too. This was the last game I purchased that I was unsure about and went into it blind. It also turned me off paid games for awhile, going back to free to play games.

Pros of the game? What pros? The idea in and of its self i thought was amazing. Its a true spinoff of the series. Resident Evil as of late has totally abandoned its survival roots and went PURE action. This has been very disappointing in the series, and the idea of an action spinoff series like this I believe is a great idea. It would of given fans a different take on the game series following a part of the story a lot of the fans find the best part of the whole series. Unfortunately though the idea was great, at least in my eyes, they executed it completely wrong.

Cons? Everything. The movement and combat feels awful. It reminds me a lot of 3rd person shooters from the PS2 era. Nothing seems polished or finalized, it honestly feels like an alpha of a future game. Some of the voice acting is alright, but most of the time it is a comedy show running and you cant help but to laugh. Dialog is awful and the story is just a joke. You eventually come into contact with a T1 Tyrant, which you cannot kill. You basically just run from it. Most classes are worthless, and people will be fighting trying to play Lupo, Vector and Spectre. And the end of the game you get the choice to save or kill Clair and Leon, the most generic choice ever and nothing is explained before or after.

The game is bundled with a DLC that I never even bothered to download, which i believe covers the government ops that are shown in the triple threat trailer, basically giving you 2 bad games for the price of one.

Overall the idea i think is great to have this type of a spinoff, but it needs to be done properly. The combat needs a huge overhaul to fix, a proper story with good voice actors. Fix these HUGE issues and they could have had a good spin off series. If rereleased by a different developer, i would try it again. All i can say from this game and the new DMC game is Capcom, keep your babies IN HOUSE.
