  1. Those who have a reliable gaming comrade on hand will find Schizoid to be a very rewarding cooperative romp, even in the face of some derivative level design. Just don't expect to feel the magic if you're the only one playing.
  2. Whether you're a more casual gamer looking to join up with a buddy for a quick adrenaline surge, or you're the hardest of the hardcore determined to prove that there's no one better to rely on than yourself, Schizoid has more than enough to make you a little mental ... but enjoying yourself all the while.
  3. As pure a game as you'll find, Schizoid is the new "Geometry Wars." [Oct 2008, p.84]
  4. Schizoid proudly bills itself as "the most co-op game ever," and it ain't lying. [May 2008, p.74]
  5. Schizoid's simple to learn but difficult to master attitude makes this definitely one of the better XBLA games of 2008.

Schizoid has a slick, artsy look and is simple, yet elegant. This game is addictive and a lot of fun for those seeking a distinctive experience based on traditional top down shooters.
  7. Schizoid is a fine entry to the XBLA library, with plenty of depth and difficulty to challenge even the most hardcore gamer. Those looking to see exactly how good they are at co-op games will find this quite the test of their skill and patience with partners.

A clever, captivating and fun Arcade game with great production values and some innovative ideas. The co-op mode is lengthy and challenging, but wears on after a bit, while the mind-bending Uberschizoid mode is cruelly clever with a sharp learning curve that may be a turn-off for some.
  9. Apart from that grumble [about the visuals], Schizoid is a welcome change of pace from the usual top-down shooter - not least because it's not a shooter, and instead turns co-op play from a fun optional extra into the core of the game.
  10. Schizoid is a nice game that excels in the cooperative mode. Unfortunately the game feels a bit unpolished in places. The A.I. has its problems and the audio-video combo sometimes fails to deliver. Nonetheless, this game is a nice addition to your arcade games collection.
  11. The single-player won't entertain for long, but the simple premise, clean visuals, and fiendish challenge deliver hours of multiplayer fun.
  12. Great for friends looking for a fun co-op distraction, but the repetitious play and unsatisfying solo play make it mostly undesireable for the rest.
  13. The co-op aspect really works well on this title, but as usual it falls due to the lack of people playing the game online. If you have friends who like to play then go for it.
  14. Innovative co-op...shame about the rest. [Sept 2008, p.92]
  15. Playing it singularly, the computer AI works well in controlling the other ship, but this is best played with two easily amused people. [Issue#34, p.117]

Schizoid is built on a decent concept that is unfortunately hampered by poor execution.
  17. Fundamentally a little anaemic, lacking the kind of acute design which would either make its stages distinct or its basic operation continually engaging. [Sept 2008, p.94]
  18. 42
It's maddening to repeatedly fail a mission because you simply can't maneuver that well...especially when the only control you have over your character is movement. If this is the epitome of cooperative games, then I'll gladly go back to playing by myself.
  19. A lukewarm experiment, and while a partner is required for fun, everything is fun with two. [Oct 2008, p.102]

An unfairly overlooked ‘action puzzle game’ that is both fun and challenging particularly when played with a co-op partner either locally or via Live. Full Review »
