Enjoyable but ultimately shallow Spidey game that feels like a missed opportunity. [Christmas 2011, p.84]

Spider-Man: Edge of Time is hardly flawless and really could have used more development time to turn a decent game (with an excellent design base) into a great one. It goes back to what 3-D Spider-Man games were like before Spider-Man 2 mandated atmosphere over interactivity, and it comes out a better game than it has any right to be given its abysmal production values. Instead of once again showing you what it feels like to have Spider-Man's responsibilities, Edge of Time goes back to inviting you to feel what it's like to be as powerful as him.

An above-average brawler/platformer, held back by issues with repetition and missed potential, and a severe lack of J Jonah Jameson.
  4. Oct 14, 2011
While Spider-Man: Edge of Time delivers a slightly better experience than Activision's other similar licensed games this year, it still falls a bit short of the expectations set by last year's Shattered Dimensions.
  5. Oct 6, 2011
It's a capable superhero action game that demonstrates that the team is getting better at crafting a Spider-Man game, but like most comic-licensed properties there is still room for improvement.

Edge of Times has a strong sense of humor and good pacing. It's too bad the controls are lacking and the sense of freedom has been taken away.
  7. Oct 30, 2011
Spider-Man: Edge of Time is an interesting game... initially. After having played a few missions, you'll get bored with the environments. Spider-Man doesn't have any freedom in Edge of Time, making the entire experience feel just, well, wrong.

The combat sequences feel like afterthoughts and the story is ultimately a bore, boasting no memorable bosses or a reason to be told other than to bring the two Spideys together...sorta.
  9. Oct 6, 2011
Edge of Time is a major step back from the formula that worked.
  10. Oct 29, 2011
If we're talking super heroes and you love Spider-Man or are looking for at least a decent super hero game, you could do a lot worse than this…but that isn't saying much for the genre.
  11. Oct 17, 2011
Unfortunately, while Spider-Man: Edge of Time does a few things really well, it does more things wrong than it does right.
  12. Dec 12, 2011
Spider-Man Edge of Time isn't a completely bad game, as the mechanics are all in place and nothing really is broken within the game – but it's not necessarily what I'd call a good game either.
  13. Nov 25, 2011
Edge of Time should have been a far better game than it actually is. It has a great story and presentation, but its gameplay lacks polish and has quite a few flaws in its design.
  14. Nov 15, 2011
Last seen swinging into a time portal towards the bargain bin, we'd recommend you save your cash until it gets there. Spider-Man: Edge of Time is not especially terrible but is far more mundane than a hero of Spider-Man's ilk deserves.
  15. Nov 9, 2011
While suffering from a lackluster plot, repetitive fights and, at times, confusing controls, there are also bright spots. The boss fights are challenging and entertaining, as are several of the puzzles. Spider-Man can't compete with Batman this time, but he may still be worth checking out if you're a fan.
  16. Oct 31, 2011
Spider-Man: Edge of Time is a great game for Spider-Man fans, but a step back from the formula that worked.
  17. Oct 26, 2011
Edge of Time is just a washed-our version of the previous game, Shattered Dimensions. If Beenox wants to strike back with the next Amazing Spider-Man, it must change something.
  18. Oct 17, 2011
I'm glad that this game didn't focus on four different versions of Spider-Man, like Shattered Dimensions did, delivering a more focused gameplay experience overall. But it seems like that focus became too narrow, leaving out the rest of what makes the character great: crazy-awesome villains and Spidey doing "whatever a spider can."
  19. Oct 14, 2011
Spiderman: Edge of Time has some nice moments, but overall is a bland and forgettable game. It lacks depth, interest and visual quality, and it's extremely short. It should have been a better game, as it has potential to, but ends up being an average experience.
  20. Oct 12, 2011
Spider-Man: Edge of Time is a great game for Spider-Man fans, but if it had varied locales and more engaging combat, it would be a masterpiece. Nevertheless, it paints a very nice picture for the future of Spider-Man games.
  21. Oct 8, 2011
Spider-Man: Edge of Time tells an enjoyably absurd time-hopping tale, but stepping into the tights of its two heroes doesn't feel as empowering as it should.
  22. Oct 6, 2011
For the devoted, Edge of Time is a nice rental with a weekend of passable web-slinging, but we hope, for Peter Parker's sake, that this one marks the end of the character's downward trend.
  23. Oct 4, 2011
Don't skip this new Spider-Man game, but just be aware that it's a few strands short of a full web.
  24. Oct 18, 2011
I wish there were more boss fights (and that there were more super-villains rather than the four), and I wish that the "witty" banter could have been reined in by about 300%. Over-all though, I was more impressed and happy with this game than I was disappointed while playing it.
  25. Oct 23, 2011
A step back for the series, with a more repetitive gameplay and not enough differentiation between the classic spidey and the 2099 one.
  26. Oct 16, 2011
A lesson in disappointment. After the outstanding Shattered Dimensions, I had high hopes for Beenox and their latest Spidey outing. Instead, I am left wondering what this game was trying to be and wishing it had been more.
  27. Oct 17, 2011
The replay value is tied to your interest in collecting items like newspapers, action figures, golden spiders, and alternate costumes. The story will take roughly seven hours to complete, with the majority of your time spent crawling, climbing, and clobbering your way through an uninteresting environment that offers little interactivity.
  28. Nov 3, 2011
Everything feels like quite a step down from Shattered Dimensions which was only a year ago. Beenox dropped the ball with Edge of Time; let's hope next year's Amazing Spider-Man game can make up for it and hope this was just a rush job, since we're aware of the quality they're able to create.

    Boring and repetitive. [Issue#79, p.86]
  30. Nov 8, 2011
I truly believe that Beenox needs to re-look at how they develop their future Spider-Man titles because games like Edge of Time give me little reason to ever want to play another Spider-Man game again. Sure the game is competent, but worth recommending, not in the slightest.
  31. Oct 26, 2011
Spider-Man: Edge of Time needs to create its own quantum causality to remedy itself from beat em' up boredom.
  32. Oct 25, 2011
Spider-man Edge of Time gives you control over two different spider-men, Peter Parker and Miguel O'Hara from Spider-Man 2099. Though the games is not really broken in any aspect, it is extremely uninspired, tedious and bland. Fans of games based on comic books should definitely look elsewhere.
  33. Oct 21, 2011
Beenox falls short to the expectations that were created with Shattered Dimenions. The sequel to last year's decent Spidey game is short and feels extremely rushed.
  34. Oct 8, 2011
Videogame fans want something more engrossing and comic book fans want something with more fan service. Spider-Man: Edge of Time satisfies neither demographic, and can safely be ignored by everybody.
  35. Oct 5, 2011
The staffers of Beenox may have done their research and read plenty of back issues, but if Spider-Man: Edge of Time is any indication, they never, ever wore the PJs.

So, based on my verdict, This game is very polished, but is let down by the repetitive and predictable gameplay

Dont get me wrong, this is a good game, but the gameplay is a little bit predictable at times.

The good points of this game are:

    1. Excellent boss battles (Especially the "atrocity" boss)
    2. Buy new powers with Golden Spiders.
    3. Good graphics.

The bad points of this game are:

    1. Repetitive
    2. Very predictable
    3. Gets very boring after a long period of time

So, based on the strength of the graphics and the sound with the bad gameplay and repetitveness, i would score this game a 7/10 (75%).

Even though I expected more from this title, this isn't a bad game, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Full Review »

Feels way to similar to Shattered Dimensions which was a good game that got a little to repetitive at the end. Here it is even worse becauseFeels way to similar to Shattered Dimensions which was a good game that got a little to repetitive at the end. Here it is even worse because you don't have the different variety of all the other Spider Men. Here you only have Spider Man 2099 and Amazing Spider Man. So you don't have the awesome stealth moments and cool atmosphere of the Noire Spider Man. Without him the game gets WAY to repetitive to quickly. The story is quite good and the voice acting is top notch but that doesn't make up for a pretty boring game. Full Review »
