I went in to this game with no nostalgia, so people with fond memories might feel differently. Unfortunately, the gameplay is much to bland for me to recommend. You go forward and press X. 1 hour later, you win. Co-op sounds like it would be fun, but somehow ends up being worse than single-player. The screen becomes a hideous jumbled mess from which no enjoyment is found. The game is a piss-poor value, too, with little re-playability to be had. Skip this, and go buy 'Splosion Man instead. Co-op for the win! This is a really fun game, but co-op is where it’s REALLY at. Since the game is a direct remake of the arcade game from the 90’s, the only real thing that’s changed is the graphical presentation, which is very good. Thank goodness they included co-op, this is what makes the game soar. As a single player experience it’s a nice walk down memory lane. With partners at your side you are suddenly reliving those days of glory past. Hook it up with some friends, it’s the best way to go with this. Expand

I've always enjoyed the Turtles in Time Arcade, SNES port and even the Genesis scaled down port over the years and here we are again with another version of that timeless classic. TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-shelled. When I first heard the announcement of this game I was really excited. CAM videos were soon posted online showing the ingame action and it looked pretty impressive. For those wondering, this port is closer to the Arcade rather than the SNES version which had extra stages. So how does it fair up in the end? Graphics: The Singapore Konami studio has done a great job with the graphics. Although it's a matter of opinion on whether you like the old 80's slapstick turtle look or new serious look. Everything is nice and clean and the animation is all top notch for everything onscreen. Sound: Voices are great. The turtles and the announcers voices and sound effects are clear and free of static as you should expect from a new game. Music however is unfortunately bland. The tunes have been remixed but lack the serious excitement and fun that the original Arcade soundtrack had. I'm not sure who was in charge of music but they honestly get a FAIL in my books. Sorry. Gameplay: The game plays great and is just as easy to control as the original arcade was. You'll notice though that you get a bit of a different feel than you would playing the original. This might be because some of the animation from the original isn't as smooth looking as this game. Still though no gripes in this department. Lasting appeal: Since I only downloaded this game this morning, I only was able to try out the first 3 levels. However there's plent of achievements to unlock and with the fact that this game supports 4 player co-op I'm sure this'll be one of those titles that you can keep going back to again and again. Overall: Konami Singapore did a great job with this game. It breathes new life into a classic arcade game that many of us enjoyed in the late 80's - early 90's and allows younger players who're new to the franchise to enjoy it with the turtles they're familiar with today. Overall 8/10. Expand

They updated the graphics but they didnt do anything else. I believe Battlefield 1943 should have been included in the summer of arcade roster instead of this game. I cant believe i wasted 800 points on this mediocre title. Shame on Ubisoft for attempting to sell this game originally for 1200 points. Even with the graphical update you can get lost and cant tell which turtle you are when theres a bunch of characters on the screen. The first blemish on the summer of arcade 09. Expand

I would recommend Reshelled only for fans of the old game. There isn't enough newness to it, and in many ways it's worse than the original. There's no solid replay value. The graphics, music, voice acting, and controls are much more bland, and while the action is more frantic it's hard to see what's going on most of the time, and your attacks rarely feel like they "connect". It would have also been nice to be able to jump in to in-progress games. With all that said, it's still very fun with four players online or off, and it's very easy to pickup and play. Expand

On my first play of the game, I loved it but felt it was way too short. On my second playthrough using another turtle, I realized that the turtles have their own unique special attacks, which changes things up a bit. That allows for 4 unique playthroughs using all of the turtles. Then I considered the Quick Play and Survival modes, not to mention 4 person co-op and the game suddenly seemed like a much better value to me. I’ve made my way through about half of what’s to offer so far, and it’s been fun all the way. I’d say I put in about 6 or 7 hours so far, so I figure I’m getting about a dozen hours for my scratch. Not a bad deal. Expand

This old side scroller is a hectic, manic fight from start to finish. I haven’t had this much fun button mashing in a long time. I haven’t played a lot of old school games lately, I forgot what a workout they can give you. With enemies coming at you constantly, by the end of a few hours I was actually getting sore hands! That hasn’t happened in a long time, it’s good to be back! The cool thing about this game (and I remember this from the arcade version as well) is that even though it’s a button masher, the degree of control you actually have once you are used to the moves is surprising. With a little practice I found myself flowing very nicely, which is important considering how manic things can get in the game. Whether you are a gamer from way back or new to gaming, this is a fun game and welcome addition to Live Arcade. Expand

Turtles! This is such a cool blast from the past. The second I started playing this is brought back memories of me and my friends meeting up weekends and after to school to drop quarters and play the day away. This is a pretty faithful remake, and the graphical upgrade adds a nice flair. I wish I still knew some of those people from the arcades, this would be a great way for us to have a reunion. I guess I’ll just have to play with my new friends! Expand

It’s too bad I wasn’t old enough to play some of those old arcade classics. Or is it? With the availability of some of these classics on Live, I feel like I get the best my generation has to offer and the best of the old timers too. What a rich world we live in! I can see why this game is held in such regard. This is platforming and boss fighting at its best. Super trippy considering it’s so retro and yet holds up well today. Expand

The great graphics don't do enough to bring up the old and broken gameplay. It's literally smash buttons. That's it, that's as deep as the gameplay goes. In addition the controls in my opinion are clunky and don't server the game well. The final boss comes down to, "do you have enough lives to beat him?" Boring. Even my five year old thinks this game sucks.

A significant part of what made the original game so terrific was the soundtrack. It was the perfect compliment to the gameplay. The new soundtrack is hardly improved and is lackluster at best. The music was one thing that should not have been "Re-Shelled."

If you like this kind of game, use the same money to buy the SNES version - it's much better.

Don't listen to the negative critic reviews; TMNT's a blast. Same classic gameplay as the aracde original with updated HD graphics, 4 player online, and new game modes. And you can save your progress and return to the stage you left on.

Nostalgia is back with TMNT Reshelled. The game looks awesome, with nice OST, though is not the original, it's still good. The only thing that i didn't like is the fact that they didn't include anything new, they just adapted the game to the new 3d era.

Terrible remake. They removed all the great music (didn't even remix it!), removed all the great battle quotes, changed the fighting engine for the worse (special attacks don't even drain health now), and made numerous other changes that ruin the experience. They didn't even bother to balance this out by offering new content, more moves, making the turtles more unique, etc. All in all, the whole experience is a childhood train wreck. Don't waste $10 on this. Go hunt down the SNES cart or something. Expand

As a fan of the SNES version of this game, I played the demo and was sorely disappointed. They completely changed the fighting system and as such removed all the strategy and thought that was required in the original. The graphics were good but the new soundtrack is awful, they should have kept the original songs and re-done them with new instruments because it was one of the best videogame soundtracks ever IMO. What a waste of time and money. Expand

This shallow, generic brawler is coasting on nostalgia fumes and the TMNT brand. Ubisoft didn't ruin the original arcade game; it just didn't do enough with it. Virtually nothing has been added to the gameplay, so you're paying a premium for updated graphics you may not even like.
  3. This is what it is and nothing more: a good remake. It's too simple compared to other beat 'em ups like Castle Crashers, but it also reminds us of those times when we shouted cowabunga when playing our favourite SNES game.
