  1. The bottom line, if you’re looking to get Tetris on a console, you should grab Tetris Splash. At 10 dollars you’re getting the same kick ass core gameplay Tetris has offered for over 20 years, you’re also getting all the great online features that Live offers. I think it’s worth it even if the premium content isn’t.
  2. It's not innovative or surprising in any way, but the graphics and gameplay are enjoyable and the multiplayer is a fun option.
  3. Of course, being Tetris, the gameplay is as addictive and enjoyable as ever, and there's no danger that you won't enjoy it if you get it, but this version just isn't nearly as well presented or feature-rich as it should have been.
  4. Dropping collectible fish in a handful of environments feels hopelessly extraneous; luckily, you can disregard the aquatic nonsense and enjoy timeless gameplay in a reasonably attractive wrapper. [Dec 2007, p.65]
  5. Tetris is Tetris. Nothing new, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If updated graphics and a unique aquarium screensaver are enough to make you spend ten bucks, then by all means, go for it.

For 800 points, Tetris Splash is well recommended to those who enjoy the game of Tetris. Just don't expect all the trimmings.
  7. At the end of the day, Tetris Splash is just plain old Tetris with a new coat of paint. It’s a good break from the day’s usual grind, but nothing really spectacular.
  8. While the formula may never grow old, purchasing its incarnations is becoming rather trivial.

Despite including an attractive screensaver, and maintaining the fun factor inherent in almost any iteration of Alexey Pajitnov's classic puzzler, Tetris Splash is dead in the water for those who already own any of the dozens of versions of Tetris available on almost every system.
  10. Leave this one to that small population of the gaming public that likes to play their games while facing their fish tank.
  11. Leave this one to that small population of the gaming public that likes to play their games while facing their fish tank.
  12. Save for its fish tank presentation, this is a wholly unremarkable version of Tetris.
  13. Tetris Splash doesn’t bring anything exciting or more enjoyable to the table of Tetris. Unless you’re feeling extremely nostalgic or wanting to add an additional 200 achievement points to your gamer score, I suggest you pass this one by.
  14. Tetris is Tetris, which means Splash is still supremely playable. But 800 points feels like an awfully high price. Especially when you can get a used copy of Tetris Evolution on the 360 for just a few bucks more.
  15. If it had something, anything new I feel like I could recommend, I'd fully endorse it, but I can't do that here.
  16. Tetris Splash is an obvious attempt at wrapping nickel and dime distribution with a safe and nostalgic piece of gaming history. Don't be fooled, this game is not worth 800 Microsoft Points.
  17. Make no mistake, Tetris Splash retains the magic that makes Tetris fun... we're just at a point now where most gamers probably have multiple copies of this game.
  18. It's the 'fin' end of the wedge for Tetris fans. [Christmas 2007, p.106]
  19. Online play is the only redeemable feature of this 'update.' Get "Puzzle Quest" instead. That got three stars. [Christmas 2007, p.98]
  20. Tetris Splash gets one point for being Tetris, one point for at least having an online mode and one point for being relatively cheap (assuming you don't bother with the DLC). But it loses points for ugly background graphics, the obligatory ghost block, the bad pacing, the expensive add-ons, the limited multiplayer options and having no sharks.
  21. To make matters worse, you can spin blocks once they hit the bottom of the well or other blocks, meaning that the skill is lessend further. [Issue 27, p.118]
  22. 30
Fans of the classic puzzle game should stay far, far away from this truly awful version of Tetris.

Tetris is one of the all time classics in gaming, a strategy/puzzle game that is as ageless as the finest drop of wine. The gameplay is still as addictive as we all remember it to be, and with soundtrack to boot, you will be stuck on this game for hours on end. Highly recommended purchase that should be in everyone's arcade collection! Full Review »
