  • Summary: The Amazing Spider-Man, this all-new third-person action-adventure video game builds on the story of the previous game with an alternative take on the events of the upcoming movie, while also giving players an enhanced, free-roaming web-slinging experience through a greatly expanded New York City.

Beenox didn’t reach the peak with its reboots yet – especially if you compare it to Peter Parker’s free-roaming adventures from two console generations ago. But they are on their way.

Compared to the big budget, 3D, slow-motion CGI movies, there is no comparison. The graphics, gameplay, and voice acting is serviceable, but hardly ‘amazing’ as the title would suggest.
  3. May 16, 2014
From developer Beenox we expected something more than a bland, open-world Spidey game that loses almost all its interest after 5 hours.

Spider-Man returns with the new film. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is an average game, and it's not particularly challenging. New York and notorious villains have many problems in this classic sandbox.
  5. May 12, 2014
The Amazing Spider-man draws too much direct inspiration from the Batman: Arkham series, implements it too unevenly to warrant much praise.
  6. May 8, 2014
You don’t need a Spider-sense to realise that a game with various audio glitches, gameplay crashes and overall sloppy design might not be worth your time or effort, as this Spider-Man isn’t the hero that fans need or deserve.

Beenox deliver a buggy, messy game that misses the essence of Spider-Man by a wide margin. Here’s hoping Activision entrusts the popular licence to another developer for the inevitable sequel.

This game is awesome. I don't know how the people gave a 7.2 for this game. I think this game is so real and I think that the creator of this is a total genius. The only problem is that the bosses are way too easy because none of them actually hurt me and I finished the game in 1 day and in 1 trial. But still one of the best games I have ever known. I usually am not used to games but now I am totally addicted. Expand

For me, the game was not so bad, and for fans of marvel this is a game that gives a bit of nostalgia. The soundtrack is good and pleasant, with the passage of time the missions are becoming increasingly exciting but what makes the game not being perfect are the missions that contains not only so much content there is to do is go there and beat the bad guys, and also the open world does not produce a lot of freedom in the scene to be pretty much the same, if only there was a more varied and easter eggs so, and such .. the gameplay is very fluid (mainly combat), and I I think the game is worth the money (for me at least one marvel fan) is so that's my review. = D

What I don't see is a a comparison to the first game, so I'm including is very similar to the first game, where at first I wasn't too intrigued but as the game goes on it grew on me, mainly because there is no cooler way to move around in a game like spidey can, and they have improved on that with being able to use both sides to swing. the graphics are okay, the story is okay, i don't see the point of the multiple question addition, and it isn't the longest game in the world....but if you like spider-man you should like this game. Why an 8 and not a 9 or 10? the benchmark for me (and many others) is Batman: Arkham City, and where this game doesn't meet it is the complete lack of options for side missions of any depth, or more importantly medal campaigns or brawls, its story or nothing, and that doesnt make sense, and seems a little phoned in as far as effort, since the game is set up for it. one could argue that with the open world you get endless play but that is a couple small repitive options. really is a 7.5 overall but spidey gets a .5 bump in my book. Im struggling to understand how anyone can give this a bad review. For a start it is stunningly beautiful with a great atmosphere, very playable, with an excellent and challenging battle system. Expand

The only thing I really loved is the freedom which isn't something new to Spider-Man games, story was okay but the idea of carnage was good. Ending boss fight wasn't as satisfying as I thought it would be. I didn't like Kraven. I don't think the game would be different if Kraven wasn't in it. But I love Spider-Man so I will give it a positive(ish) score. Expand

The Amazing Spiderman 2 is disappointing
Spiderman is my favourite superhero so the announcement of this game got me excited and when I found
out the features and villains In the game I was sold, I bought this on day and played it straight through in a couple of days. It wasn't what I was expecting.
I bought the game on the 360 and the graphics were rather impressive, Spiderman looking the best in the game. The combat is taken straight from the batman arkham games (like the first game) the only difference is that you can preform signature moves at certain times which causes Spiderman to flip around and use his webs to finish the enemy off, these moves look great and were cool to see but there are only around 6 of them in the entire game. The web swinging mechanics are vastly improved from the first game with webs connecting to buildings and using both the left and right trigger to change directions easier.
But the game has so many problems, there are only 14 main missions in the game and there is little to no story at all, the game crams in around 8 villains all of which are easy to beat and present no challenge at all, even the final boss is simple and anticlimactic. The game gave itself some freedom when it decided not to follow the movies storyline, but instead it just threw in a pointless uninteresting plot that had no effort put into it. Only one side quest in the game is actually quite fun and requires some stealth skill in order to complete them, all the others however are completely forgettable and take no time at all to complete. The game doesn't have any characters that are memorable or interesting other than Spiderman, Kraven the Hunter is given the role of a mentor but he isn't developed any more than that. The only likable character (excluding Spiderman) is Stan Lee, he runs the comic book store which allows you to view action figures, comics or play the arcade machine which is just facing waves of enemies in a row. In the game you can play as Peter Parker, this is completely pointless as it is just used to ask certain characters some questions or take a few photos. Also there is no Gwen Stacy in the game, she was in the first one but is absent from this game for an unexplained reason, they don't even say her name and she has practically disappeared from existence. WHY!! The biggest complaint about the game is the hero or menace system, events occur all over the map and if you don't do them then you will become a menace and get the taskforce to try and take you down, this is one of the stupidest systems in any game to date. You are basically unable to just swing around the city at you leisure you are forced into doing the same repetitive missions over and over again or you will be attacked no matter where you go.

Overall the game is a disappointment, it isn't the worst ever game or even the worst Spiderman game ever but it just needs more, there needs to be more missions, more characters development and there needs to be an actual story. At its core elements such as fighting and web swinging the game can be very entertaining and fun to play but with all its problems it becomes a painfully average game with only echoes of its previous games greatness.
However I don't believe that the game was ruined because of lack of interest, but because of time restrictions. The game only had around 1 year in development as it is needed to be released at the same time as the film. The game should of been given more time to be made and only then will it of been the game that should of been released. It isn't the Spiderman game that I was hoping for and I can only hope that The Amazing Spiderman 3 will be the game that we've been waiting for.

only 14 main missions and riddled with enemies that block super powers hindering freeplay in the city. The other side missions are mostly uninspired and take less than 30 seconds to complete and have about 5 different variants. Character customization / upgrades are all limited to skills doing more damage nothing more.
A very poor attempt at Prototype/Infamous fails at everything it does. The PS3 version also buggy trophies not unlocking/freezes
