Gamers create their own mob character in the game, putting themselves into the action while reliving classic moments from the fiction and experiencing original missions alongside memorable characters from the film. After a life of small-time jobs and petty thefts the player is accepted into the Corleone family, America's most famous criminal organization. It is up to the player to carry out orders, earn respect and make New York City their own. Featuring non-linear action-adventure gameplay, The Godfather offers gamers countless choices for solving the family’s problems with brutal violence, skillful diplomacy, or a cunning mixture of both. From mob hits and bank heists to drive-bys and extortion, step deep inside the world of The Godfather where intimidation and negotiation are your tickets to the top. Players use their powers of loyalty and fear to earn respect through interactions with characters in the world. Decisions made by the player in the game have lasting consequences, just as it was in the mob underworld featured in The Godfather fiction. James Caan, Robert Duvall, and the late Marlon Brando provided voice acting and likenesses for the game. [Electronic Arts] Expand

It boils down to the combat system though. A good story is nothing without good gameplay to back that story up, but thankfully The Godfather delivers on all fronts.
  2. I commend EA for not porting over the XBOX version and just adding a fresh coat of paint. They went ahead and added new Blackhand moves, new executions, upgraded graphics, new side missions, and a host of many new features on your way to becoming the Don of NY.
  3. The setting is nailed down perfectly, and EA has taken care to get great voice acting and music.
  4. The 360 version of The Godfather is a lengthy and enjoyable experience that puts the source material to great use, but it's not much of an improvement over previous versions.
  5. This next generation iteration is basically a HD version of the game with a few tweaks to fix previous mistakes, luckily however the strong gameplay is still there to make up for some of the let downs.

Still, the overall experience is quite fun and usually immersive as you re-experience the classic flick with a twist. [Nov. 2006, p.76]
  7. But with winners like "Saint’s Row" out there, The Godfather is one big bully stuck in the past.

The main problem is probably that people try to compare it to the godfather films. It is not going to be as good as them because it is in a different line of media and focuses more on the game play than anything else. I view it more of a 1950s Grand Theft Auto which lets face it is something that we do not see enough. I rate this as ten due to the rating being lower than it deserves. I advise that if you are the type of person who enjoys third person soot em ups you should buy this game. If you don't like third person shoot em ups then start liking them. Expand

Great graphics - pretty good control scheme and loads to do. This is the kinda game that grows on you. I've put 8 hrs into it and I'm nowhere near finished. Sure it gets frustrating and some parts are very hard, but that is what makes for replay value. My only complaint is that the producers were unable to secure Pacino's voice for the character of Michael. Expand

The difficulty level is a little too high, which wouldn't matter, except that YOU CAN'T LOAD YOUR F*****G GAME. It cannot be understated how obnoxious it is having to quit your game and reload from the main menu. I wouldn't mind dying all the time if I could just load the game and restart the mission in a matter of seconds (like every other sandbox game EVER). But it takes 2-3 minutes just to get back to the start of the mission. It may sound picky, but it is utter b******t not being able to load a game while in-game. As a matter of fact. I'm changing my rating from 4 to 3. Forget this crap, get Saints Row. Light years better. Expand
