  • Summary: Torchlight is an action role-playing-game for Xbox Live made by the creators of Diablo, Fate, and the never-released Mythos among other games. Set in the mining town of Torchlight, players will adventure to uncover the mysteries of the Ember mines. It offers a fully featured character leveling system, randomized dungeons, hordes of monsters, and gobs of great loot. Expand

Anyone that played the PC version should be right at home here. In fact, the game is basically the same all around, which, disappointingly, means that the XBLA version of the game also lacks co-op. This is the only real downside to Torchlight.
  2. Mar 16, 2011
Minor graphical issues and clunky inventory management aside, Torchlight for XBLA does a spectacular job of translating a PC dungeon hack-and-slasher to two analogue sticks and face buttons.

If you liked Diablo then Torchlight is your thing! The fingerprints of the former Blizzard developers are all over this and it feels great. This game proofs that this genre is not out-dated. Get yourself back in the mood for a dungeon crawler.

Just as the PC version, Torchlight is a fun experience, with a lot of exploring, looting, combating and side-questing. It lacks a multiplayer coop mode, it has some framerate issues and it's rather short by genre's standards, but it's an interesting game overall. Recommended for hardcore action-RPG fans.

Runic have created a highly-accessible dungeon crawling game that's highly competitive with the best of the genre.
  6. Mar 18, 2011
Movement feels smoother with the analogue stick, and that inevitably helps when you're crawling your way through hordes of skeletons.
  7. Mar 8, 2011
Torchlight is an awkward game to assess. On one hand, the gameplay is a major disappointment in that it's worse than Diablo II in every way, but on the other hand it has no major flaws and, even for a hater of easy games like me, gets addicting once the Shadow Vault, an unending postgame dungeon whose enemies are tied to your level, becomes available.

If you are looking for a well-constructed dungeon-crawler and RPG, the XBLA version of Torchlight is a great bargain (1200 points). It has a few problems but consistently redeems itself -- this is a game made by people who love gaming and it shows! Expand

Torchlight is amazing!! If you love Diablo, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, Champions of Norrath, or any other hank n' slash dungeon crawling RPG you will looooove Torchlight! I have been waiting a year and it was well worth the wait. In this day and age I am not a fan of point and click PC dungeon crawlers. We have controllers. We have analog sticks...time to upgrade the formula. A must buy! Expand

Torchlight was a lot of fun to play. The price for the value is just great. I highly recommend this game to everybody. No, the game is not as good as Diablo but neither is the price. Expand

Lots of fun for 1200 MSP. It can get a little boring if you arent really into the dungeon raiding scene but the amount of loot you get makes you want to keep going. The spells are cool and the amount of items is staggering for an arcade game. Definitely a buy if you were a fan of the Diablo series. Expand

The lack of multiplayer was sorely missed...especially with the wild variety of items to collect. I'm all for replay value, but one could grow bored of the repetition long before he ever completed an item set...even a mediocre one. Still, the same detail stands as a major selling point as well. With so many toys to find and use the game is sometimes hard to put down. Expand

Best game I've ever played. Also the most frustrating game I have ever played. I am a newbie to metacrtic. However I have played over 266 hours in Torchlight.
    The good bits.
Quick graphics. Will run on fairly old systems with half decent graphics card. Originally I had a Dual core with a nvidia 9500gt and it ran fine in medium settings.
Gameplay is fantastic. Story a bit weak but you really don't care it is just a lot of fun to play.
This coming from someone who has invested some serious time into Diablo 3.
    No grinding (D3).
    Also multiplayer was a joy.

    The bad bits
Guts and mods oh my word.
Word of the wise if you just want to play a game when you get home from work without any tinkering or messing about then do NOT buy Torchlight. I remember trying to connect to a friend at around 09:45pm come 12:30am we had still not connected and gave up playing.

A few people will disagree, however if you want to play multiplayer with one or more friends and you want to try out different mods. It is a joke. Restarting mods and restarting the game are a very common occurrence.
If you want to play single player with mods etc then fine 10/10.

However this game I think should have released the synergies mod as a dlc and not as a community workshop ongoing project.

Torchlight 2 10/10 best game ever
Torchlight 2 synergies/guts bells whistles etc.

    Why a gave a 4?

Well i will copy the text I sent to the customer-support of runic-games. Hello,

maybe I am just a single customer but as I
read in a lot of forums you did two big mistakes with the xbox version of torchlight.

1.) You totally screwed it up in a technical way. The Xbox can handle games like Gears of War 2 without major framerate issuses, but torchlight cant handle it? FAIL!

2.) Your idea of saving up the multiplayer, especially coop, is strange. In my, and many other games opinion you did that on purpose to ensure that everybody wo thought "man, that is a really good game, but i wish there would have been online coop!" is eager to buy torchlight 2.

Furthermore you kept the console gamers waiting for over 1 year and what did you finally gave them? A sloppy PC conversion with a acceptable UI. Thats all you have to offer for console gamers?

You know what? I'll save the money for Torchlight 2 and spend it on Dungeon Hunter Alliance / Dungeon Siege 3 / Diablo 3. To satisfy my "coop-hunger" I'll play DIABLO 1 on PSX, because this game managed to implement a coop mode!
