What kicks this game into the frustration bucket more than anything else is that control system.

Yar's Revenge is tailor-made for shooter fans who are seeking a challenge, but at $10, it's too short for me to truly recommend it.

Yars' Revenge is a fairly competent shooter and gives new life to a gaming classic. It has a decent story, and looks great on a huge display, but the voice acting and sound really detract from the overall appeal of the product, which in turn sucks the life out of all the action on screen. With a short story, and no real multiplayer, Yars' Revenge is a hard-pressed sell to any but the most die-hard of shooter fans.

It doesn't help that you're saddled with an inelegant control set-up that demands constant use of all four shoulder buttons at once.

The attempt to reinvigorate the thirty year old Yar's Revenge is only partially successful. The stylish animé-sauce and gorgeous environments that go past you can't hide the average execution of the game behind it. The largest challenge it offers comes from your impending struggles with the controls. Other than missing any sense of reward whatsoever, it just hasn't been worked out well.

Not everything used to be better in the past, but Yar's Revenge sure was. This game should have stayed in the past because the boring storyline and the repetitive gameplay just aren't up to date.

With nothing in common with the original, Yars' Revenge is a terrible bad incarnation of the original classic. Hopefully Atari will learn from this mistake and do something better the next time they decide to to a HD remake of one of their classics.

Fun game but no Panzer Dragoon Orta. I am glad to see on-rail shooters make a comeback though, and it's been a long time since I actually played one personally, so it was nice to have this style of game make a return. Hopefully with they can add some Kinect support down the line as this would be a lovely game to use your hands with. Overall, I say buy if you're looking to get back into on-rail shooters and want a new game in the genre. Collapse

Just a quick rundown on the PC version of the game. Being a console port, Yars Revenge only supports 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios, has a menu system not designed for a point and click interface making it awkward to navigate and has no way to reconfigure keys. The biggest problem however is the horrendous, poorly-responsive in game mouse control with always on aim assist, making it impossible to play with any skill or accuracy. I would not recommend this to anyone. Expand
