Arcade racing in a stunning world that is so enjoyable and addictive that topping it seems impossible. [Issue#246]

Forza Horizon 2 improves almost everything from the original chapter, serving as a real sequel able to take the series in new directions. The unexpected vocation of off-road proves to be a winning card, although some might not appreciate the lack of realism.

The open world of southern Europe, rain or shine, not only provides a great backdrop, but it is an awesome automotive playground too.

An amazing example of online and offline racing built around an engaging, satisfying handling model with the looks to match. Very, very nearly worth buying an Xbox One for alone.

It sets a fun vibe without coming off as silly or childish. The racing is serious business, but there are plenty of ways to play that aren't so ardently competitive.
  6. The level of choice when it comes to Horizon’s 2‘s core circuits is surprising and ensures there’s something for everyone, regardless of your taste in cars.

The most disappointing thing about Forza Horizon 2 is how little it’s improved since the first Horizon. There is still no meaningful career progression or economy. The career is quite literally running a circle around six chunks of Europe, over and over and over again, in the pursuit of colored bracelets with, as far as I can tell, no significance. Canned bucket list challenges and barn scavenger hunts supposedly break up the action if you feel like heading off in that direction.

10 out of 10....... So far!
Admittedly I only got my XB1 yesterday, however I'm a long time gamer and have had all of the previous gen Forza titles, and have loved them. So I was hugely excited to unbox the XB1 yesterday and dive in to a multitude of games, however in the 7 hours I played last night this was the only game to get any play time!
I have to say that I thobk this is the racer Ive been searching for for a long long time. I loved the freedom to tune and modify the appearance of my cars in other Forza games, but were so sim heavy that it became a bit soulless and repetitive after a while. I also loved the Project Gotham games too, absolutely loving the kudos system as well as it being a really decent racer. I was just craving a touch more seriousness and more variety of cars and customisation options. I'm also a massive GTA V fan, and for years I was crying out for an open world driving game where you can drive to the race itself, then race! I tried out Test Drive unlimited but found the car handling physics massively lacking.
So take the Forza we all know, make it slightly more of an arcade racer without cheapening it ( it's more like PGR but not massively so ) and give it some lushous open world scenery such as you find in GTA V ( but not as vast ) and you have one pretty perfect racer.
Style points are awarded anywhere, including when just driving in the open world. You dont have to enter a certain race or mode to win these style points, and so you will be racking up the XP points in no time. I'm normally a racer who uses manual transmission and very few driver aids in the other instalments, however here, for the time being at least I'm driving in auto with assists as its still so much fun, being easily able to kick the back out and hold a power slide with relevant ease. I haven't played on line yet so time will tell whether I have to resort back to manual to pick up my pace, but for the moment it's fine as is.
The feeling of speed is incredible. One thing lacking from the GTA V game where even in a hyper car you just don't feel you are travelling all that fast. I tell you this, doing 210mph in the McLaren through town with traffic was a proper adrenalin rush!
If you want an out and out sim, this is not the game for you. If you want a game that combines the best elements of sim, arcade and open world freedom, you simply must buy this game. At time of writing I just cannot recommend this game highly enough. Bravo. :-)

The only criticism is once you've finished the horizon festival there isn't much lasting appeal for me but a easy 9/10 best racing game out on the market at the moment. Expand

This review is short and sweet

Pros: Beautiful game with great sound and loads of content. The car collection is excellent and all are faithfully reproduced. MP and SP are loads of fun (Don't expect it to be a sim, it's a video game), varied challenges and online road trips are a good laugh..

    Cons:

Some texture pop, too easy to earn enough money to upgrade cars or buy the top cars, scenery can get a bit repetitive.

If you love gaming and play for fun, then this is one of the best releases this year.

Very boring. What's the point of an open world when you're stuck inside a car? Waste of effort into world building imo. They should stick withVery boring. What's the point of an open world when you're stuck inside a car? Waste of effort into world building imo. They should stick with just track racers. On that note, the graphics were also disappointing, not much better than the 360 version. Sound design is also lacking compared to other racers, overall a very disappointing package. There are better racing alternatives out there on all platforms. Expand
