    The Amazing Spider-Man 2 continues to swing with energy, but you can see some of the strain peeking out of his suit. Between the glitches from rushed development and some unnecessary gameplay segments (go…away…Peter!), it's not nearly as good as Beenox's other efforts. Here's to hoping that for the next game, Activision lets this team run wild on something inventive and new. Certainly couldn't hurt this web-slinger's chances.

    Essentially picking up where the last game left off, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 does little to push the series forward, instead choosing to play it safe and reheat the same gameplay structure. That said, there's still a fair bit to enjoy here, especially if you missed out on the first Amazing Spider-Man.

    The Amazing Spiderman 2 may not do total justice to our hero, but the ride is a good comic book distraction.

    A mediocre movie tie-in, incapable of adding anything meaningful to the previous game outside of the revamped swinging mechanic.

    I’m sad to see that the Spider-Man games have fallen this far, because the formula once worked exceedingly well. Beenox’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 is trying to cash in on its film’s popularity while emulating many of Treyarch’s touchstones, and in nearly every area, this game is inferior to a title that came out nearly a decade ago.

    It’s especially frustrating because the web swinging really is fun, but developer Beenox wasn’t able to keep the momentum going once you hit the ground.

    The various game crashes, audio glitches, and unceasing loading make up an additional catalog of do-not-want, but it’s really just how diminished Spider-Man is that hurts. The anemic plot and the oft-repeated zingers give us a pencil sketch of the great Spider-Man, when he deserves to be inked and colored.

    But in the end, it becomes hard to recommend The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to anyone but the most devout of webhead fans, because it's a game that squanders all that potential.

    Like the Transformers games, this is one of those shallow, mandated movie tie-ins. [July 2014, p.87]
  10. Terrible writing, outdated menus, frequent load times, repetitive missions and bugs galore – we’re not talking spiders – conspire to make this latest release a chore to play through. And the worst part is, Beenox has broken the cardinal if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it rule by messing with the one thing that made its previous games enjoyable: web-swinging.

    The biggest question you'll be left asking is why the Amazing Spider-man 2 exists. [Issue#148, p.102]

    This Game is damn-near perfect. It hit's spider Nirvana in an all time high. The missions don't seem repetitive as you cut crime. The undercover Peter missions have an underlying campaign that gets you involved so much. I assure, Do not miss this game! Full Review »

    This is definitely the best web stinger game out there .People are going into this looking for flaws. Spider-man never ceases to "Amaze". The swinging is fluent, the combat is great, and the story is sublime Full Review »

    This is the first beenox spiderman game ive actually enjoyed, mainly due to the introduction of the proper webswinging thro new york which i think they totally nailed - in general i really enjoyed it despite its flaws (of which there are many - lazy filler missions - lack of proper dynamic aerial combat), hard to put a rating on it becos of this, but i played it nonstop for 3 days and its probly the most fun ive had with a game this generation (yes i have titanfall) there is a truly amazing game in there somewhere and i think with just a bit more effort the follow up could be awesome- my 2 cents as follows;

    - Add some more depth to ground based combat
    - introduce aerial combat similar to spiderman web of shadows.
    - introduce player on player multilayer races through the city - cmon this would be amazing - SPIDEY v VENOM v CARNAGE RACE!!!!!!
    -put more effort into the filler missions...i accept they are a necessary evil but a wee bit more variety would go a long way!

    Anyways im no game developer but i think those tweaks would go a long way!
