  1. The gameplay has been honed to near-perfection, showing that a tactical approach doesn't necessarily lead to more complexity.

Just about every aspect of the production is top-notch, from the stunning graphics to the realistic, graphic dialogue. Although there might end up being better Xbox games this year, you won't find a better WWII shooter anywhere.
  3. We didn't want just another gun-toting FPS and this is realistic, intrinsically comfortable to play and a solid alternative to single-trigger action. But, as a long-term contender this doesn't carry enough depth to make it the ultimate combat ally.
  4. Plenty of games have flourished around the slaughter, scale and destruction of war, but few have managed to realise a soldier's role and worth - disposable, vulnerable, pivotal - as well as this. [Apr 2005, p.100]

  2. Bloody, crude, harsh and very violent, maybe it wasnt the CoD of last generation but if it was the big jugaloo ,then maybe it could had been famous by the awesome campaign. I enjoyed every single bullet I shot to my enemies . Expand

Yeah I have to agree this game is over-rated. Either that or I am not playing it right. Ive made that mistake before. However I got through the first one and really wasn't raving about the accomplishment. The reviews I read talk about cinematic and having a real feel for your fellow troops. I didnt really get into the storyline too much and the gameplay consists of bogging down the enemy with suppressing fire - whilst they do that walking around the side of them and then taking them out. I wouldnt have minded that if that if it wasnt so repetitive. Chuck in some straight out bunker/corridor action where you can mow down the enemy rather than having to wait for them to pop their head up over a fence for a headshot which rarely hits the target even when you know you are spot on. I got through one or two missions on this sequel before putting the game down in boredom. Maybe I might have to re-hire and give it another go - personally I just don't believe the hype. Expand

Another ultra linear main stream title. And even though gearbox manages to get some strategy into this game it rather quickly becomes dull to do the same surppress and assult tactics throughout extremely linear yet beautiful environments. This game is completely bereft of replay value - there is one way through each map and roughly only one way to deal with the krauts. Furthermore the engine is probably one of the weakest to date - the guys from gearbox have somehow managed to cripple the unreal2 engine making it this game run with unacceptably low frame rates on a powerful pc without showing the player anything new apart from some good bloom effects and some soft lighting. And i can go on - the load times completely kills this game with the 2 min. loadtimes on ever map and the 1-1½ min. for the QUICK LOAD?! (1gb ddr4400 dual) But i get it - the game delivers main stream action in calustrophobically linear environments. Thats the kind of gameplay the mainstream gamer wants.. sadly. Expand
