  • Summary: Join the resistance and liberate your people from the oppressive Corporation. State of Emergency plunges you into a rioting mob fighting for freedom. Use hand-to-hand combat, weapons, and anything you can find on the street to add to the chaos. The streets are littered with a variety of weapons--from park benches and soda cans to flamethrowers and rocket launchers. As you fight for the cause, don't be surprised if corporate executives, law enforcement officials, and looters fight back. Expand

  1. While it's not an entirely brilliant game, the multiplayer feature and the sharper graphics make this the essential version to own.
  2. While State of Emergency's arcadelike objectives and somewhat simplistic fighting system can make it feel a little shallow, the game's technical strengths, satisfying displays of comically overblown violence, and budget price make it worth a look.
  3. Though the Chaos mode great fun, there really isn't much to enjoy beyond this. The wealth of game modes, secrets and graphical wizardry we saw in "Kung-fu Chaos" is simply lacking in State of Emergency.
  4. It's too one dimensional – violence being the answer to all the Revolution missions without a stealth objection or changing environments to consider.
  5. After 20 minutes of watching people run around crazily and aimlessly, you realize that they're mostly just window dressing for very basic, uninspired, beat-'em-up gameplay that we've all played before. [May 2003, p.74]
  6. There's not much of an actual game here. [May 2003, p.134]
  7. It never really evolves beyond the point-to-point errand running through relatively small environments. [May 2003, p.69]

People say this game gets repetitive, and I'll give them that. But I still think it's fun to run around shooting people.

Once you use all the cheats for ammo and time etc.. I really dig the one man killing machine theme. There should have been more levels rampage thru over all I think it kicks ass. Expand

For the price, brand new, it's worth it. Its one of them games that you put in to veg out, get some stress out, and generally to just mess around. If you're critiqueing this game and saying it has "no point" and "no depth", remember, that's not always a bad thing. I ask a question, you've got ten minutes to kill, do you want to spend 2 min. on loading, 3 min. on setting up, then another 5 min. on movie + dialouge? -Captain Obvious strikes again- Expand

In a word...boring. In two words... relentlessly boring. Complete one mission in this game and you've completed them all...because basically it doesn't change much! Ignoring the increadibly glitchy nature of gameplay (people walking through walls, game freezes) the graphics and gameplay don't really offer much. Too it's credit, the game does animate alot of characters on screen at anyone time, and the custom soundtrack feature is always a winner, but the game never really developes much beyond that. A disapointing perchase, but a good rental to have a crack at with a few mates on the multi-player, but other wise don't bother. Expand

This game is OK for the first couple of hours... after that, it really sucks. You have to do almost same thing, again, agian and again...
