  1. TOCA 3 is like a brand new game, and the added features make the game even better than TOCA 2. One thing that doesn't look like it is going to go anywhere though, is those cardboard spectators.
  2. Now the AI is far more sedate, happy to follow the line and pecking order that the Codemasters gods have bestowed upon them. A problem that plagues pretty much all racing games, in fairness, although it's slightly disappointing here, all the same.
  3. Codemasters has really pulled out all the stops to make TOCA Race Driver 3 about as good as it could possibly be on Xbox. Simply, it's another excellent driving game that puts most of the competition to shame - not just because it's so utterly rammed with so much top-notch content, but that it does so to such a consistently high standard.
  4. It's hard to think of anything else the guys at Codemasters could have crammed into the game, and the way they've managed to retain such a high level of quality throughout the whole experience really is extraordinary.
  5. The last great racer on Xbox. Unless the mere sight of a car makes you physically sick, we'd call this a must-buy title. [Xbox World 360]
  6. The prospect of racing everything including the kitchen sink should be a recipe for disaster, but for Toca 3, it's not. [Mar 2006, p.80]
  7. Every year Codemasters puts out a new version, and it's as sure a bet as anything in this industry that it will be even better than last year's--and that once again it will be mostly ignored by U.S. gamers. [Mar 2006, p.44]
  8. TOCA Race Driver 3 may not be the perfect racing game in terms of physics and feel but there's no other game that can match the outrageous number of different racing styles at such a consistent level of quality.
  9. You can't help but be impressed by both its breadth and depth. [Official UK Xbox Magazine]

There's no shortage of modern racers, but most of the current crop seem obsessed with the attitude of tuner culture than racing itself. Toca Racer Driver 3 has no truck with that: It's all about the driving experience. [Mar 2006, p.80]
  11. A solid racing game with amazing variety. The new Pro career keeps even the best racers busy for a while. The game feels a bit too familiar, but it is still a great sequel to a classic game. [Feb 2006]
  12. If you love anything with four wheels and an internal combustion engine, then you can't afford to miss out on ToCA Race Driver 3.

Not only is the game filled with cars to race, car disciplines to pick from, and an enormous amount of replay value to enjoy, it also manages to healthily balance noobs and hardcore gamers.
  14. An excellent racer, and a must for any fan of any form of racing. It replaces and raises the bar in all categories, mixing a huge amount of quantity in styles, cars, and tracks, with a truckload of quality.
  15. TOCA 3 boasts an awesome variety of racing disciplines, and it backs that boast up with some really excellent driving mechanics.

If there's one complaint it's the precision necessary to succeed in completing some of the championships.
  17. The last Toca shot itself in the foot instead of putting the pedal to the metal by restricting players with a linear career structure. Luckily for us, Codemasters has rectified the situation in this newest Toca. [Mar 2006, p.100]
  18. Race Driver 3 understands that a processional win from pole is less fulfilling than a hard-fought, championship-saving fifth place from the back of the grid. And though it can't exactly engineer those situations, it does everything in its power to make them more likely and leave them unpunished. [Mar 2006, p.87]
  19. Improvements in the level of detail on offer from the damage modelling to the multi-layered audio, continue to present the game with ever greater realism, and no-one could ever accuse the developers of a lack of variety in the vehicles.

If your dream garage has side-by-side parking spaces for an off-road K500 Pro Baja Duneracer, a Williams BMW FW27 F-1 machine, and a vintage Corvette L88 Sunray DX, this is the game for you.
  21. TOCA Race Driver 3 continues to set a trend all its own, literally opening up a driving universe that's just primed for exploration.
  22. Car handling is impressive. You can really feel variations in surfaces and the car losing traction if pushed too hard. Passing in heavy traffic takes skill and patience.
  23. The controls are spotty, all the good stuff is hidden behind a byzantine unlock structure, and the graphics are a notch below par for the Xbox.
  24. ToCA 3 is not unplayable, but it definitely needs some tweaking. [Mar 2006, p.102]
  25. 65
As it stands, Race Driver 3 suffers from too much variety and not enough substance.

As much online fun as PGR or Moto GP, better than Forza and LOADS more tracks!

Best racing game to date. I hope very much Codemasters takes over for Nascar.

An excellent simulation game with very diverse vehicle options that requires you to adapt quickly to all the different environments. Some of the offroad modes could use a little polishing. Full Review »
