Director Zack Snyder uses his computers to create ferocious and painterly images, with as much attention to each frame as a hand-drawn panel.
  2. 300 is a huge step forward in visually sophisticated storytelling.
  3. It's impossible not to be moved by its nearly nonstop visual assault.

A blustery, bombastic, visually arresting account of the Battle of Thermopylae as channeled through the rabid imagination of graphic novelist Frank Miller.

There's a stale, synthetic airlessness about the movie. Imagine a large cast trapped in a series of spectacular screensavers. It could be ancient Greece. It could be somebody's hard drive.

Part of the fascination of the Thermopylae story is that it really happened, and it helped define real heroism. There's nothing remotely like reality to be had in this film.

It's a ponderous, plodding, visually dull picture, but the blame shouldn't be put on Snyder's skills per se, and has nothing to do with his ambition to blur the distinction between CGI and photography. Frankly, it's the slavish, frame-by-frame devotion to Miller's source material that's the problem.

This is the best movie that I have seen in quite a while. It should win awards for its style/visuals. Kept me entertained and emotionally involved the whole time. This is not a "movie" or a documentary for that matter. 300 is a film. Expand

This movie is awesome. secondly for people who think this movie was made up it wasnt its about the 300 spartans vs 1.000,000 greeks. now onto the movie this is a great roman movie with great action sequences and i love when they slow down time to see the kill. overall great movie. Expand

Visually amazing and I ask for nothing more. the story was really good too, my only problem was the writing; seemed stuck between old roman and a weird modern way of talking. Besides that if u didn't like the movie u need to man up and blame ur narcolepsy if u thought it was boring. Expand

Here is a movie with incredible special effects, and really nothing else. Gerard Butler delivers a decent performance, just enough to get you to care what happens to the few brave spartans. The talking is dull, primarily the lena heady scenes, but after one particular scene and a subsequent vengance, i did start to like her a bit more. But there is enough violent, fast, brutal action filled with the best of both worlds from Zack Snyder and Frank Miller, the graphic novelist for which the film is based. The film is inspired, but not spectacular Expand

The film's technical achievement's aside, this is a mediocre to poor film. There is little emotion to connect with, and the film becomes tiresome. The performances are good, the direction good, but the script is bad--if there is a script at all. By the end of the film, these are not people, but digital creations who just happen to be made of flesh and bone. Sorry, but the film just doesn't ring the humanity that such an underdog story needs. Awful film. It really does no justice for the real heroism of the real battle.
