  • Summary: Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas (Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite against their Persian enemy, drawing a line in the sand for democracy. [Warner Bros.] Expand

Director Zack Snyder uses his computers to create ferocious and painterly images, with as much attention to each frame as a hand-drawn panel.
  2. 300 is a huge step forward in visually sophisticated storytelling.
  3. It's impossible not to be moved by its nearly nonstop visual assault.

A blustery, bombastic, visually arresting account of the Battle of Thermopylae as channeled through the rabid imagination of graphic novelist Frank Miller.

There's a stale, synthetic airlessness about the movie. Imagine a large cast trapped in a series of spectacular screensavers. It could be ancient Greece. It could be somebody's hard drive.

Part of the fascination of the Thermopylae story is that it really happened, and it helped define real heroism. There's nothing remotely like reality to be had in this film.

It's a ponderous, plodding, visually dull picture, but the blame shouldn't be put on Snyder's skills per se, and has nothing to do with his ambition to blur the distinction between CGI and photography. Frankly, it's the slavish, frame-by-frame devotion to Miller's source material that's the problem.

This is the best movie that I have seen in quite a while. It should win awards for its style/visuals. Kept me entertained and emotionally involved the whole time. This is not a "movie" or a documentary for that matter. 300 is a film. Expand

Based upon i have seen so far, this movies is nothing short of spectacular action and dramatic scenes that can show us that ancient battles can be more exciting trough the eyes and mind of a great director. Really a must see for everyone that loves a great epic movie. Expand

A very artistic movie that closely follows the original comic by Frank Miller that it is based on. If you have read the comic, you will notice a lot of scenes straight out of it. I'm not too pleased with the inclusion of the whole politic intrigue, but otherwise, I loved the movie. Check it out if you like battle movies and don't mind a little nudity. Expand

Here is a movie with incredible special effects, and really nothing else. Gerard Butler delivers a decent performance, just enough to get you to care what happens to the few brave spartans. The talking is dull, primarily the lena heady scenes, but after one particular scene and a subsequent vengance, i did start to like her a bit more. But there is enough violent, fast, brutal action filled with the best of both worlds from Zack Snyder and Frank Miller, the graphic novelist for which the film is based. The film is inspired, but not spectacular Collapse

Sloppy movie. Ridiculous dialog which is delivered like Hulk Hogan yelling at Macho Man before a match. Settings that change drastically: first your fighting on a flat beach, then you're being pushed over a cliff? WHAT? Hipocrasy at all times: We are honorable spartans but we will kill our deformed babies and push messengers down wells. An antagonist that drew out loud laughter from the crowd (NOT in a good way.) I was told after I saw the movie that I was being too critical and picking it apart too much. I'm sorry, I can't turn my brain off like that. Expand

Awful film. It really does no justice for the real heroism of the real battle.
