YoonC.Sep 13, 20038Wonderfully acted movie about the love/hate relationship between an eccentric, free-spirited but clinging mother and her sensitive and intelligent daughter. At its best, the film focuses on the logistics of day-to-day existence that render it more plausible and compelling than the average tearjerking movie of this sort. Portman is especially dazzling.

88A monumentally graceful union of two extremely dissimilar stars, one inspired cinematographer and an exceptionally patient, curious, independent-minded director.

63Corny and blubbery as it is, still packs an emotional wallop.

91Susan Sarandon has never been more outrageously appealing. Natalie Portman is simply exquisite.
