Familiar faces in supporting roles don't do much for the commercial prospects of this modest film, which feels like a made-for-TV version of the prototypical Sundance-aspiring quest for identity.

Simplistic plotting, pedestrian visuals and poorly-handled melodrama do lend the project a cheap, made-for-TV feel, which is underscored by the fact that Danes and Marsden don’t seem obliged to turn in their best work.

Director Max Mayer doesn’t find a way to make the ritual traumas of adolescence feel new again.

The Good: The cast was solid and did a good job with what they had to work with. Sarah Bolger was absolutely fantastic. I have seen very little of her, but if she turns in performances like this one, then I look forward to seeing more of her. The story is a decent one and the first half is extremely interesting and thought provoking.

The Bad: It falls apart in the second act and goes from pretty good to bad. Parts of the story stop making sense and several characters suddenly become downright unlikeable. The ending was poorly done and abrupt. A lot of buildup with no pay off.
