Burning Man takes its time getting us to feel for a troubled character but gets the hook in solidly once it decides to.

Burning Man benefits from the highly watchable Mr. Goode and able players like Rachel Griffiths and Kerry Fox.

The high-sheen Australian drama Burning Man leans heavily on a scrambled chronology, and likewise feels tonally mixed up, but it certainly does keep you guessing.

Grief doesn't rate high among emotional states suited to high-octane presentation; hence the disconnect between excessive style and sober content in Burning Man, a feature-length montage posing as a serious drama about loss and anger.

  1. A brilliantly well made and affecting film experience. Challenging in many ways; to follow the film's fractured narrative is jarring initially but ultimately feels like a natural extension of the story. Performances are exceptional especially from Matthew Goode and Essie Davis right down to the young actor who plays Goode's son. Technically it's striking in so many ways, the editing done very cleverly, and photography breathtaking. I desperately love this film, it's heartbreaking, it's shocking and raw and sexual, but it is just breathtakingly beautiful. Expand
