  • Summary: While on winter break from her elementary school in Boston, Ryan Hale goes to visit her grandfather in Montana. Soon after her arrival, she rescues a wild dog she names Buck and nurses him back o health. Buck soon shows the outstanding qualities of a sled dog. When the town bully tries to claim Buck as his own, the sheriff decides he will be awarded to the winner of a dog sled race. If Ryan and her friends can train Buck in time, there is a chance that she will get to take him back to Boston. But as the day of the big race approaches and the holiday comes to an end, will Ryan discover that, despite their mutual affection, Buck will always be happiest at his home in the wild?     Alternately jerking the audience's tears and splashing snow in their faces, 3-D indie Call of the Wild loses focus (literally) but gets by on its good-hearted demeanor and a gently sweet turn by white-bearded Christopher Lloyd as the heroine's protective gramps.
