Tom Cruise does with bartending pretty much what he did with a pool cue in "The Color of Money." In other words, he shows skill at a con game while being less successful with the woman in his life. [29 Jul 1988, p.A]

The more you think about what really happens in Cocktail, the more you realize how empty and fabricated it really is.

Near Cocktail's numbing end, viewers who are still awake will hear love interest Elisabeth Shue warn Cruise: "Your sexy little smile isn't going to work this time.'' Drink to that - a Bloody Mary to a bloody shame. [29 Jul 1988, p.4D]

In fact, with no fewer than 17 of Donaldson's favorite rock songs and a complete lack of dramatic impetus, Cocktail would fare better as an extended-play music video.

This is one of the most iconic films of the 80's. It literally oozes cool. This is not one of the 29 worst films of all time... Give me strength! Expand

This movie isn't a masterpiece but, it is entertaining, certainly shouldn't be in the worst movies list.

I watched this movie when I was 14, so I did not realize how completely ridiculous it was until I watched it again as an adult. Please, if you are in your early 30's watch this movie again, with an open mind and a critical eye. Awful. Expand

Was there a script involved or was this improvised? Awful waste of celluloid.
