• Starring: Kat Dennings, Sandra Oh, Woody Harrelson
  • Summary: In Defendor, reality intersects with delusion in the mind of Arthur Poppington, a regular man who adopts a superhero persona known as Defendor and combs the city streets at night in search of his arch-enemy, Captain Industry. In his attempts to combat crime and bring down this drug and weapons dealer whom he mistakenly blames for the death of his mother, Defendor ends up befriending a young prostitute, Katerina. Armed with unconventional weapons of mass confusion, and aided by his new friend, Defendor proves that sometimes you need to go off the beaten path – way off – to make a difference. That tension between silly comedy and poignant drama could have been dicey, but Stebbings and Harrelson maintain just the right balance between the two.

Harrelson shines, particularly in framing scenes with Sandra Oh as a tactful court psychiatrist.

Although Harrelson displays the right balance of sweetness and quiet instability, Defendor's genial spirit fails to mesh with the filmmaker's exploration of darker emotional terrain.

It's fantastic! Funy and sad, heroic and sweet. Harrelson must be one of the greatest actors out there!

  2. Defendor is not what you would expect from a superhero movie, I don't want to spoil anything but this is a must see for everyone (except younger audiences) it's a funny and touching movie, if you enjoyed Kick-Ass you'll enjoy this, it's one of the best superhero movies ever. Expand

Maybe... one of the worst movies I have ever seen! Don't go looking for a comedy, it's not played for laughs. Everything else is a smut attempt to be funny and tell a sad story. It fails on all accounts. Avoid this film like the plague! Expand
