For a big-screen disposable, Doom has a few jolts, a few good laughs and an attractive female lead to whom you want to say, "What's a nice girl like you doing on a Mars like this?"
  2. Doom may be by the numbers, with a roll call of colorful types systematically exterminated while The Rock entertains with cartoonish expressions and reactions (the closest the film comes to personality).

The Rock's ungainly performance is somewhat alleviated by Karl Urban as a crew member and Rosamund Pike as his twin sister.
  4. We don't need a discussion of plot in a review of a movie made from a video game, do we? Nor do we care whether the characters are complicated (no), the acting is sophisticated (no), the direction is competent (no) or the camerawork is clever (no).
  5. The latest failed Hollywood attempt to make a movie from a video game.

Go for the gore (there's lots of it), but stay for the immortal line: "Now let's go find the body this arm belongs to."
  7. This claustrophobic mess of a movie offers only carnage.

You can also imagine my bemusement to discover that this has little to do with the games and that The Rock is wasted on a character that requires him to do little more then scowl and shout a bit. Taken purly as a sci fi horror film though this is, um, ok. A passable guilty pleasure (as one other person said) that does get better after a slow first half hour and the first person scene is a minor classic. Expand

I went into this movie expecting it to be bad, but I'm a big doom fan so it didn't matter. I gave this movie a 5 because the first I went into this movie expecting it to be bad, but I'm a big doom fan so it didn't matter. I gave this movie a 5 because the first half was the best part. I would not recommend this movie to true doom fans. The reason for this is because the creators came up with there own story instead of following dooms which kind of pissed me off. Weren't the demons supposed to have come from a portal leading to hell? That was the biggest problem I had. If they make a sequal (which I hope they don't) I'm definitely not wasting my money on it. I love any film the Rock is in. This movie is only getting this score because I like him. I have to admit though that I didn't expect I love any film the Rock is in. This movie is only getting this score because I like him. I have to admit though that I didn't expect anything from this film. I expected a plot that a drunk Collage student could have come up with, and boy, was I not dissapointed. Now I played the original DOOM and where are the DEMONS? WHERE IS THE HELL PORTAL? What is all this 24th strain crap? I wanted to see thr Rock kick some demon ass and shut down hell! What a sad hollywood imitation of a great game. Expand
