Milch and co-writer Kendall McKinnon don’t actively buck humorous situations — the film is a comedy at its heart, deep, deep down — but there’s a dark underpinning to everything that happens in “Dude,” even when it’s overlaid with bawdy jokes and filthy situations.
The movie becomes more involving as it finds its focus.... Ms. Hale does an excellent job portraying a popular overachiever understandably resisting the inevitable.
This movie tries to show the teenage drama, it does have as main characters 4 girlfriends that are at the end of high school and are deciding where they will go for college, the film show what teenagers do and think after a difficult situation... i guess so.
The biggest problem is that the movie got like 1 hour without developing anything, it does have a little at the beginning but that's it, almos during all movie the characters are going from party to party, using drugs and talking about sex and that's so exhausting because it is literally happening all the time and doesn't advance the story in any way. The characters does struggle in relation with their family and that also is very present in them. The acting is all about Lucy Hale, she does have a nice time and have faces and mouths with expressions that is really good to see, in this movie she is outstanding, but all the others didn't actually had much to do.
A movie hit is the message that it tries to give, that you cannot get stuck in life, the main characters pass through a big loss and a year later one of them are still stucked in it and doesn't want to advance in life and somehow want to hold the others back as well. There are some moments that are a metaphor for it, and was pretty good.
This movie tries to go close as the same path as Lady Bird and The Edge of seventeen for example, but it really doesn't get there, because it does have a nice message about the problems of a teenager facing the adult life, but the overall doesn't make it so interesting, not just for the plot holes, but mainly for the high level of whatever things that are in it, that you not just don't care, but also don't evolve into anything, the character develop should have been really better for me to care more about those things, taking Lucy Hale character out all the others didn't really do much until the end of the movie, when the movie should be concluiding something, it is still on the beginning, because of that big slow start, start that goes over a 1 hour.
This movie tries to be a comedy with aspects of drama, and in comedy it does fail a lot, there are some little laughs that i got, but mostly was failuring.
In certain moments the movie tries to show how life really is in that transition between getting to adult life and a high school teenager, and it can get there it works, but at the most the movie is in like a daydream where nothing really happens.
The cinematography works, there is one moment that uses a dark place to tell something with the light and stuff, wich was pretty good, but unfortunately it doesn't show up very much. The music isn't very noticiable.
The movie isn't good, it does have some nice ideas, but definely nothing that was a lot worth watching, it does develop a image that isn't the one that is the best for this story, wich is cliche and doesn't have nothing new.
It's okay, its a decent. It's a Netflix original, take it for what it is. A comedy-drama about a group of teenage girlfriends, that are all having trouble preparing for life after high school. It was written and directed by debut feature filmmaker Olivia Milch, and it stars Lucy Hale, Kathryn Prescott, Alexandra Shipp, Awkwafina, Alex Wolff and Nora Dunn. The movie is acted well, the characters aren't that memorable but theyre acted well nonetheless even though they are clearly 27-28 years old.
Even though “Dude” strikes a teens-behaving-badly blow for gender parity, even if it’s every bit as raunchy as most boys-get-blasted comedies of its ilk, its several random laughs don’t build to anything, its deep thoughts are too shallow to uplift the genre, or the age group it might have been aimed at.
The writer and director of this movie is also doing Ocean's 8 (2018)(screenplay)by her so I am not sure now what Ocean's will be like after watching this and knowing this information ! The movie is silly and a waste of time plot is weak nothing new to it as a male viewer I got an idea why this has higher rating from male in the age of under 18 most of male rating from specific scene mark my word which is also ridiculous and unappropriated but as for a whole movie I can't find a based story but a bunch of girlfriends screwing around smoking weeds and stuff no real story there I even trying to remember what I just watched can't recall so this is definitely not a movie to be remembered even for a week I almost forgot it what I just saw , not a king of movie even to watch to kill some time its so boring that you'll watch it on parts and the clock won't pass I am really sorry to say that and sorry for Lucy Hale and for the new writer Olivia Milch I don't mean to offend her but this movie is a garbage !! Olivia if you're reading my review this rate only for you as a support and to encourage you to do better otherwise I will rate this a zero !
