Blessedly unimportant, Fantastic Four cruises along on modest yet genuine comic-book pleasures.

Frustrating because it doesn't seem far removed from a wholly enjoyable motion picture, but the tempo's off, beats are missed, and the production ends up sounding out-of-tune.

Even if you can get past the acting -- and in the case of the beautiful, blank Alba, that's asking a lot -- the film just sits there, not exactly torturous, but never very exciting, either.

After this mediocrity, no one's even going to remember Roger Corman's godawful bargain-basement 1994 version. Which, on second thought, had a lot more heart that this one.
  5. There's nothing remotely fantastic about this Fantastic Four.

From less a purist's standpoint than a seeker of serviceable junk food, this comprehensive waste of time is too bouncy to be an "Elektra" bummer, but should make Marvel mascot Stan Lee think twice about burning another lucrative bridge with unintentional hilarity.

Fantastic Four, a great movie, a really great movie! It's a movie that can't be forgotten, because it is clever. I love this movie, and I loveFantastic Four, a great movie, a really great movie! It's a movie that can't be forgotten, because it is clever. I love this movie, and I love Jessica Alba's voice acting (and I like even her face :P). Even the other actors are fantastic, the one that flies with fire, the elastic ones, the "rock" one. (9.7) Expand

It isn't a great film like Spiderman, but it still has its own moments and character. Given the source material, and Jessica Alba, its simply impossible for this movie to fail its audience on all levels, and it doesn't. Like I said, it has its moments, which prove that it's more than a meaningless presentation of the IP. But overall, its a rather stupid movie, in many ways. Plus, it lacks the excitement and build up of the characters *as superheroes*, which left me feeling a bit unsatisfied. If you're into superheroes, it's an entertaining flick, but it's not a great movie, and is nothing compared to what comic book movies can be (for that, see Batman Begins and Spiderman). Expand

You have to take a film like Fantastic Four with a pinch of salt, because it is what it is: an FX-laden, cheesy-line-riddled action-fest. In You have to take a film like Fantastic Four with a pinch of salt, because it is what it is: an FX-laden, cheesy-line-riddled action-fest. In terms of depth, it's on a par below X-men and Spiderman, swapping multi-dimensional character presentation and believable plights with tighter costumes and firmer buttocks; perhaps a fair trade? The film reflects the powers of its heroes well: it seems hot at first, but soon requires huge stretches of imagination, resulting in a plot that is rocky, and at times invisible. The extent to which The Thing's wife harshly breaks of their marriage based on his new image is ridiculous. Otherwise, the film manages to hold your interest for as long as it lasts, but culminates in a dire conclusion (it hurts to compare the final epic battle of this film and any other super-hero flick, it really does). Just about worth seeing, but everyone will anyway. Expand

If there's no story, the special effects have no function, and the characters are cartboard.
