In fact, he's so cool he’s even dissing his best friend. But trouble arrives when Jerry moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right—but everyone, including Charlie's mom, doesn't notice. After observing some very strange activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic. (DreamWorks Pictures)

Fright Night joins "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" as proof that you actually can do this sort of thing correctly.

Fright Night isn't quite a classic vampire movie, but it's refreshingly straightforward and self-deprecating.

It's a somewhat goofy movie that also manages some real scares. Best of all, it makes excellent use of an element of vampire stories effective since Count Dracula confronted Van Helsing in Bram Stoker's novel: I know that you know, and I also know there is nothing you can do about it.

With the exception of a few stakes and crosses jumping from the screen, some bloody sprays here and there, and one creepy, claustrophobic car ride, the 3-D glasses are a hindrance, not an enhancement.

Funny and scary - and sometimes both at once - it lives up to the original, even if it fails to surpass it.

Feeble comic one-liners and slow pacing combine for a routine fangfest in this remake of the 1985 film.

I was really surprised at how great Fright Night was. Everything from the acting, the atmosphere, the music, the story... it was all pin-point perfect. Colin Farrell was absolutely amazing in this movie. I mean, everyone is great in it but Colin really stands out. Everyone should see this movie in theaters, it's fantastic. 10/10 Expand

You get everything you ever wanted in a movie without needing to change theaters. You get sucked into the story right from the start and you have a lot of fun during it trying to figure out how he is going to get out of the situation. I never thought that Colin Farrow had it in him to be able to pull this off, but he does. I never watched the original and after this I don't think that I want to. The graphics are amazing and seeing the old one will just make me want to see the new one and trash the old one. Great movie must see! Expand

And scary too. I had liked the original in its day and there are things they lost from that one which I wish they had preserved, including the mechanism for Charlie's discovery of the nature of his neighbor. There were moments in the movie where the 3-D was really impactful, but frankly, those moments were too few and far between. Lesson learned, do not take someone who has been recently bitten into the sunlight.........Yikes. Expand

The surprise gem of the year. One of the best films of 2011! As good as the classic vampire film Let The Right One In. A must-see! I liked the cast...

Nothing new in this teen vampire flick, except for the lack of nudity. I usually stay away from these movies but the Green Metacritic ratingNothing new in this teen vampire flick, except for the lack of nudity. I usually stay away from these movies but the Green Metacritic rating and the name actors peeked my curiosity. It is different from the usual fare (nubile lasses needing no reason to remove their tops), but not here. Someone must owe someone as Mr Farrell and MS Collette appear. Mr Farrell may have had good fun being the "bad guy" but Ms Collette is clearly here for her name as she has a very small meaningless part. There are a couple of attractive women (a fetching girlfriend and crying stripper) but also with little dialogue, although our hero does need a sweetheart to encourage him. Mr Yelchin plays it for real, although there are a few laughs, it tries to be a serious film. He is believable and does have some unusual facial expressions, but overall he is average. The film is well made, good pacing, silly and preposterous at times, but aren't most teen vampire films? I wanted to like it as the "names" do a credible job, but it's just not worth seeing. Not horrible, but not recommended (C+). Expand
