Desperate, he turns to Darnell (Kevin Hart) to prep him for a life behind bars. But despite James’ one-percenter assumptions, Darnell is a hard-working small business owner who has never received a parking ticket, let alone been to prison. Together, the two men do whatever it takes for James to “get hard” and, in the process, discover how wrong they were about a lot of things – including each other. [Warner Bros.] Expand

It matches up two comic actors and instead of clashing or canceling each other out, they bring in the best possible result: A comedy with twice the laughs.

I don’t believe that Get Hard sets out to be hurtful, and there are some good gags... but it does seem dumb and dated.

Ferrell and Hart have a genial, easygoing chemistry and Get Hard manages to score more than a few good points about facile assumptions and toxic hypocrisy.

If the jokes in Get Hard were a set of Jeopardy categories, they’d read as follows: Things Will Ferrell Puts Up His Butt, Butt Rape, Shots of Will Ferrell’s Bare Butt and Satirical Comparisons of Violent and Nonviolent Crime Not Excluding Mentions of Balzac.

Whatever one makes of Get Hard’s contribution to our ongoing national debate about race, class and sexuality, there’s no denying that too much of it simply feels cheap, flailing and tired.

Beyond a leper’s handful of jokes that actually connect, this might as well be Ferrell’s most abysmal piece of work since the disastrous "Land of the Lost."

Well, sure, there were some racism, rape, etc. but, it has some funny moments. Especially that police riot training scene. It made me laugh to the floor. If you are into Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell, you should see it. If not, well, you should at least see it anyway. My suggestion, go check out the movie. Expand

What makes this film "funny as hell," is Ferrell and Hart's chemistry, unlike 'The Wedding Ringer' even though the slap stick get ridiculous we still get a laugh. Now Will Ferrell is watch able and hilarious is the best comedy he has ever done? sure i guess so, sometimes he over does it. But the thing is his character may not be appealing to others, some can find it funny, on the other hand people can find it a little offensive at times. I think this is Kevin Hart's best comedy since "The Wedding Ringer," he really tries to make us audiences laughing (you have to give the guy credit). I think you should watch this movie! Expand

"Get Hard" 10 Scale Rating: 5.5 (Decent) ...

The Good: The premise is an amusing one and Ferrell and Hart make for a great odd couple. As their relationship turns from one where they are simply using each other to one of true friendship, it is believable and sincere. Hart's lines are hilarious and you can tell that he was allowed to ad lib often. Ferrell had his moments too and there were a few scenes that I couldn't help but laugh out loud at. Craig T. Nelson and T.I. did excellent jobs in supporting roles. Not as funny as it should have been, but a decent comedy all the same.

The Bad: I expected more hilarity from this duo and the film is inconsistent in that regard. Most of the amusing scenes were given to Farrell as opposed to Hart, which was disappointing. Hart is clearly on the top of his game and Ferrell has lost a step or two. Some aspects of the ending were too silly and went too far. Lastly, the film relied too much on racist and homophobic humor. I don't personally mind such jokes if done well, but they felt forced and dated here.

The film relies heavily on stereotypes, racism and homophobia to get it's laughs. The film has a "countdown" premise, where the main character James King (Ferrell) has just a month to get prepared for jail by his mentor Darnell (Kevin Hart) for a crime that he didn't commit. I feel like Ferrell has a lot more comedic lines than Hart and that Hart was there mainly so that Ferrell could make the jokes. The best way I can put it is:
