Nearly a perfect movie. Perhaps the only thing detracting from it is the deja vu from a half dozen other road movies. Crude humor is having a renaissance. This is the golden age of watching horny guys getting stoned on the big screen. Big laughs, though I made the mistake of bringing the kids..oh well, they liked it, too...and luckily didn't ask any questions. Pretty fly...for some non-white guys. Expand

Hilarious! I got a big kick out of the "EXTREME" stupid white guys, especially when they get excited over a bag of Extreme Doritos at a convenience store. And of course they get what they deserve in the end, because the universe unfolds as it should.

There are some very funny scenes in this seemingly lame movie, but a lot of parts won't be funny to anyone who isn't high on pot. The idea of the plot is just so intelligently void to begin with, and the movie makes a lot of promises it doesn't keep. The highlight of the film is the cameos, including my favorite by Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU) as a greasy red-neck who tries to get the two boys into a four way with him and his wife. Neil Patrick Harris plays himself, and Anthony Anderson plays a guy working at a fast food burger joint who brags about spraying his seed in the burger's special sauce. Bottom Line: It's sometimes hysterical, but mostly pretty lame. But, what do you expect from a movie starring the Indian guy from "Van Wilder" and the Asian guy from the "American Pie" movies. Expand

If it wasn't for Anchorman or Shaun of The Dead, it would easily be the best comedy of the year. I need to see Kal and John more often. I just saw this solely on the fact that both were from great teen comedies (John: American Pie, Kal: Van Wilder).

Easily the funniest movie of the year. In the spirit of, yet superior to, the American Pie trilogy. MUCH funnier than Dude, Where's My Car -- much more intelligent -- and Ashton Kutcher can't act his way out of a freakin' paper bag. There MUST be a sequel to this thing. Amersterdam, baby.

This is truly a classic. Look out for one of the best scenes ever when Kumar (Kal Penn) goes through an extended flash forward of what his life would be like having married a bag of pot.

?Dude, Where?s My Car? is one of the guiltiest of guilty pleasures of mine. It?s a stupid juvenile stoner sci-fi comedy and was just about one of the funniest movies I had ever seen at the time. It came out in the winter and the brightness of the California summer portrayed in the film was in complete contrast to the look outside of the theatre. But the film worked for its idiocy and audience and was hellishly fun. It?s impossible to defend this kind of film when I am a seedy discourager of 90% of Adam Sandler movies, but it was just too much fun to ignore. ?Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle? is director Danny Leiner?s stoner follow-up to ?Dude, Where?s My Car??, and is as defendable as it is enjoyable. To compare ?Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle? to ?Dude, Where?s My Car?? in quality is like comparing ?Braveheart? to ?Man Without a Face?. It is the ?Citizen Kane? of stoner road movies, a revolutionary movie unseen in the youth comedy genre since ?Animal House?. Its laughs depend on sight gags but sheathe below the surface and into real life humor, despite the use of a cheetah as a vehicle. It has lots of insights on culture that make it seems smart without being too brainy. The plot, however flimsy and simple it should be, is about two guys, Harold and Kumar, who are on an adventure to white castle. Harold, a Korean played by John Chow from the ?American Pie? movies and the excellent ?Better Luck Tomorrow? (an in-joke that only I got), is an accountant and is given a load of work to do by a slacking superior. Kumar, an Indian played by Kal Penn (Van Wilder), is applying most uninterestingly to a med school. When the dean tells Kumar that he is greatly disappointed in his enthusiasm in proportion to his qualifications, Kumar has a great comeback line. After the doldrums of the day have ended, they both recluse to some premium weed. The munchies quickly set in and the two desire the perfect food for the evening when suddenly, a White Castle ad comes up and the two have a goal for the evening. The two quest on to the nearest White Castle and chow down on sliders (tiny burgers that slide instantly from the mouth to the stomach). But the endeavor is not without pit stops: a hilarious part at Princeton University that includes a bathroom scene much funnier and gross-out than a similar one in ?White Chicks?. They also come by Dougie Howser, who steals their car so that the line ?Dude, where?s my car?? can be uttered later. Yet the funniest scenes do not come from the sight gags on the adventure, but rather from the plays and sidestepping of the two leads. Harold is Chinese and was a very ?American? first name, which a shadow-lurking cop tells him he should be proud of, while he assumes Kumar is spelled with 5 O?s and 3 E?s. What the film does really well instead is take out all of the typical (now they are atypical) stereotypes of the two and make them into almost typical stoner Americans. It?s a far better movie than anything Cheech & Chong ever did and has a lot of energy that stoner films always lack. Just because it?s about lazy people does not justify its lazy self. Expand

Although "Being Neal Patrick Harris" is funnier than "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle", the latter is a relatively rollicking joyride as well. But to paraphrase John Doe of X, "[Doogie] is having much more fun." "Harold and Kumar..." is a more successful assimilation experiment than "Better Luck Tomorrow", but intentional or not, the film posits an interesting self-consciousness about Harold and Kumar's ethnicity, in particular, the avoidance of fistacuffs with a gang of white boys. Had they mixed it up with the convenience store vandalizers, and were beaten soundly, "Harold and Kumar..." would allign itself closer to the Justin Lin film than "Dude, Where's My Car?", because it would look like a hate crime. This is a comedy with tension, albeit largely effaced by the usual hijinks, typical of the genre. But the cops have to be portrayed as complete morons for a reason this time, or else, the cop's harassment of Harold by saddling him with a trumped-up charge, which leads to a propagated act of civil disobedience, would seem more obviously racist. "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" might be stupid, but John Cho and Kal Penn play their characters like they're protected by a stupid-proof shield. It makes for a nice juxtaposition. Expand

I do not understand how a moronic movie of this caliber gets high ratings. I would assume 13-18 year old males are the ones giving this garbage 9s and 10s. If you think this movie is good then I would imagine you could put any 2 idiots on the big screen smoking dope and trashing women and it will be a masterpiece. I weep for the future.

I was barely interested enough to finish watching this self-indulgent movie. Not very funny, and so filled with stereotypes - especially odd for a movie that aims to reverse the Asian/Indian image. The one thing I did enjoy was Neil Patrick Harris' cameo.

This movie is really really funny. If you liked Euro Trip or Old School, you'd probably love this movie. Has some great toliet humor and also some very witty and creative jokes as well. I also loved how the minorities are normal and all the white dudes are crazy as hell. Plus it has almost as good of a cameo as Matt Damon in Euro Trip.

Pure hilarity. I can't believe this movie isnt getting better ratings, but i guess most critics dont have much of a sense of humour after going through a thesaurus all day trying to sound intelligent. This is simply the funniest movie so far this year, with a bonus to that if you are asian, brown or a stoner.

For the first 20-30 minutes of the movie, I was pleasantly surprised and really settled in for a great comedy. But after that (starting with the racoon scene and ending with Neil Patrick Harris) things just plummeted. We shut it off at that point. Really disappointing as it had potential to be a great comedy classic.

Jack Me : "I do not understand how a moronic movie of this caliber gets high ratings.
