A very seriously flawed movie. Probably due to editing and directing. Properly edited and directed the script probably could have been saved. The robberies were totally unbelievable (plane scene, totally relaxed listening to the two-way radio). Hackman, is he a brilliant thief or a fool? He plays both at the same time here. It was a bit long, and in love with it's own dialouge. Other than that I thought it was fine. The other reviews here are so poor because they like clean cool criminals and bank robbers who get away scott free and whom for everything works out. I hesitate to say this, but if you know anything about real heists you know this is how it generally goes down.

I was so excited when I was going to see this. Then the film had these obscene twists and with an attitude as if it KNOWS its so smart. That angers me more then anyhing ese in the film. With these pretenious lines like "Every body needs money, thats why they call it money!" now what exactly is that supposed to mean? Of course, there mut be a violent shoot-out at the end to highten the "suspense". The characters were undeveloped and boring. The unpredictable twists were so predictable. "The Score" at least knows what exactly what it is and doesn't ruin it with violence and pretensious lines. The scenes were overlong and no guard ever checked to see whats up. Mamet's hit or miss and when it's a miss, it ends up being a poor man's Tarantino. Not a bad movie but not great. Great cast is generally wasted. But his wife is hot.

This movie had all the potential to be greater than it turned out to be. Devito was his nasty self and Hackman is still trying.

Yet another Mamet film where eveyone gets double crossed so many times you start to lose track. In the end, I don't feel outsmarted, I feel like I've been outlasted with one mechanical back-and-forth plot twist after another.

It got to the point where you knew there was gonna be a twist, and you didn't care...it had more stupid twists since Chubby Checker. And that plane heist...oh come on...totally unbelievable! Btw, Roger Ebert said it contained the funniest line he ever heard "Everyone needs money, that's why it's called money". HUHN? That and the counting sheep joke, went way over (under?) my head. Unbearable dialogue, miscast characters (devito), and an absurd cutesy plot make this one of the worst films of the year.

A real stinker. Utterly predictable plot filled with tired cliches & never-ending, shoot-me-in-the-head-now bitching & griping among the characters that laughingly attempts to pass itself off as gripping drama. It feels - and sounds, if you listen to the atrocious score - like a B-movie straight out of the 70's. The fact that this wasted film garnered so many favorable reviews simply shows once again that most critics are idiots.… Expand

Solid acting and directing but tiresome script of conjobs and counterjobs which Mamet has done much better in the past, namely in the astounding House of Games. This movie is an empty exercise, everyone going thru the motions. Soon unpredictablity becomes predictable and like the story of "never cry wolf', we begin to doubt everything and not care when we finally see who comes on top.

Entrancing thriller without the baggage of stimulating original thought afterwards.

Definately not Hackmans best work. The film would get rolling along pretty good for a while , then get stupid. So many doub-crosses you knew it was a twist movie...which is not the way to make a twist movie.

Very disappointing - Although Gene Hackman is always good, the plot is really weak and I'm not all that hard to please! Wait for it to come out on video!

This is the worst movie ever. This movie should be called a comedy because some of the lines in the movie are so bad that I was laughing my ass off.

As usual David Mamet gives his actors impossibly stupid dialouge and directs them even worse. I swear to you he actually wrote this line in the movie: "He's so cool that when he goes to sleep, the sheep count him." What the hell does that mean? Mamet tries so hard to be cool that its almost a comedy. He should stick to writing plays. If you watched this movie as a drinking game, taking a shot for each time one of his actors repeats the same line or whenever someone has a heated phone conversation to further the plot, you would die from alcohol poisoning. He should also try casting a woman who isn;t his wife as well. Hey David, there s a reason why no one else hires her.… Expand

This was a great film, I enjoyed it all the way through. The characters are the reason to watch, although the plot is good and the dialogue is cool too.
