  • Summary: During Hong Kong's hottest summer on record, seven stories crisscross, magically intertwining and affecting each other: A chauffeur and a foot masseuse romance through text messages, unaware of each other's identities; an innocent factory girl asks her admirer to stand outside in the heat for 100 days to prove his love; a sushi chef prepares the perfect meal so that the food critic he loves will stay with him forever; a blinded photographer must locate the beautiful model he insulted; an old man desperately searches for an antique light bulb for the shrine of his late wife and each night an air conditioner repairman challenges a mystery girl to a road race. Intense temperature sparks intense emotions and the fates of these couples are tested when a blackout spreads across Hong Kong and the city falls into chaos. (Fox International Productions)

While the film is slight, predictable, and familiar, it's great popcorn fare.
  2. Do they have date movies in China? Probably, and Hot Summer Days, an enjoyable concoction of loosely intertwined stories of love and obsession, is just right for that purpose.

Bubbles along with a jaunty but unoriginal blend of the sweet, tart, cute and weepy.

Hot Summer Days makes a lukewarm case for global warming. It's a better argument that the production of mindless fluff is not just limited to Hollywood.

Unlike the similarly multi-strand "Valentine's Day," Hot Summer Days has heart, however overstated most of its action.

It's less a film than one long advertisement for itself-and for the fact that mindless entertainment truly knows no borders.
