This movie was one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had watching a film by far. In this classic boyhood-like pirate action adventure film, there are a lot of moving parts (underlying plots) that seamlessly work together to recreate the adventures of one Errol Flynn: easily the most charming, enthusiastic and good-looking man to ever hit the silver screen. This movie details how Errol Flynn, an outlaw pirate and master charmer, began his journey to the big screen during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Flynn quickly became one of Hollywood’s most successful actors playing the roles of adventurous heroes in films, one of which is “Adventures of Robin Hood”. Director Russell Mulcahy does an excellent job in including the audience in the fun adventures. I felt like I was part of the crew, one of the boys, tagging along on their quest for gold. Mulcahy made me feel like I was a part of the fun and adventure, rather than just being a spectator on the side.

“In Like Flynn” was truly able to capture my attention, and my heart strings, through its action-packed and charming delivery of the biopic of early Hollywood actor Errol Flynn. The film follows Flynn (played by Thomas Cocquerel) as he, along with three other unique shipmates, embarks on an exhilarating journey from Sydney, Australia to Papua New Guinea packed with adventure around every corner. Everything from the acting to the story itself was enchanting, combining to create an all-around fun and enjoyable movie experience that I could not get enough of. The cast had some big names, such as Clive Standen, Dan Fogler, and William Moseley; however, I was most impressed with Thomas Cocquerel’s portrayal of the protagonist. Cocquerel perfectly captured Flynn’s charming and adventurous personality with every line he delivered, exemplifying the larger-than-life character he displays. Even more, the film was a wonderful throwback to the cinematographic style of old Hollywood, without being cheesy or simple. The film included elements that were so iconic to the era, such as the following of a drawn map to indicate a journey and cartoonish, fun fight scenes. I was engrossed in this film from beginning to end, and I could not recommend this film enough!

Efficiently engineered by veteran Aussie director Russell Mulcahy (“Highlander,” “Razorback”) to achieve a hugely satisfying balance of seriocomic action sequences and sometimes boisterous, sometimes sentimental male bonding.
In the end, what we have with In Like Flynn is an homage to the action-adventure tales of old Hollywood, appealing to the fans of the adventure films of old.
In Like Flynn would probably benefit from lowered “cut-rate Indiana Jones” expectations. But Mulcahy is too visual (a music video vet) and visceral a director to not lift them, just a bit, in the best of those early scenes, before the weary screenplay limited supply of charisma in the cast let him and the movie down.
With its incoherent, episodic script, In Like Flynn lacks the worth of even a minor Flynn film.
This film is based on the true story of Errol Flynn. It is full of intense, jaw-dropping moments as we watch Errol Flynn and his partners on their adventure to Papua New Guinea. From boats on fire to fighting matches, this film constantly had me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed watching this film. It was truly a thrilling experience. Errol Flynn’s character is daring, brave, and charming, which sometimes benefits, but also hurts him along his journey. In Like Flynn has a really well-written story line and amazing character development.

A biographical drama surrounding the true life of Errol Flynn, In Like Flynn depicts an entertaining quest with continuous unexpected turns. Womanizer and gold prospector, Flynn (Thomas Cocquerel) convinces three men to accompany him on an open sea journey to Papa New Guinea on a boat stolen from Japanese opium smugglers—all to encounter large sums of gold. Although the film is based on the true life of actor Errol Flynn, prior to his performing years, the film contains unexpected and heart-tugging twists that kept me both engaged and emotionally attached to the plot and characters. I highly recommend you watch this film, as the combination of adventure and drama reeled me in to the story.

In Like Flynn is an entertaining film depicting the early life and experiences of Errol Flynn. Before he became a Hollywood star, Flynn lived for the thrill of traveling and risky adventures, He set sail on a voyage at sea seeking gold from Papua New Guinea along with 3 other men. On their journey, they faced an abundance of obstacles and physical threats that Flynn was able to overcome with his unwavering determination and charming personality. This film does a tremendous job illustrating the life experiences that Flynn went through that allowed him to be discovered by Hollywood and eventually become a film star. With this film’s humorous dialogue, intense action scenes and captivating cinematography, I was thoroughly impressed and what highly suggest seeing it!

I found this movie to be really interesting in that it’s about a future major Hollywood actor, but not about Hollywood. It’s about Errol Flynn’s life before he made it big but not about him trying to make it big, and it is completely fascinating to me. Watching this film through that lens made it really fun for me, especially because I love film history, and as a self-contained story this movie still rules. It’s completely charming and has all those fun plot elements that we love to see in old films- adventure, romance, charming lead, bad guys. All of it just works so well together in a way that has you totally hooked.
