Frank Pavich’s fun documentary captures an unbowed, exuberant Jodorowsky, who recalls his team of “spiritual warriors” with the camaraderie of a battle-scarred veteran.

[Jodorowsky's] a hoot, and so is Jodorowsky's Dune. But it's something more, too, a look at twisted genius and missed opportunities, a sad but intriguing combination.

In retrospect, it’s obvious why the film was never produced: The director was a lunatic.

Cheerfully partial and unapologetically deferential to its subject’s operatic self-promotion, Jodorowsky’s Dune makes you wish that he had scraped together the final $5 million needed, we are told, to realize his dream.

A mesmerizing movie, a history lesson about the pre-blockbuster era in science fiction movies.

For those with any interest in cult cinema or just the bizarre behind-the-scenes stories of any film production, Jodorowsky's Dune is a fascinating document of one of the most legendary films ever not made.

The doc consists of interviews with the absurdly grandiose Jodorowsky (whose fans include Kanye West) plus acolytes like current director Nicolas Winding Refn and film nerds, all of whom walk us through storyboards and tell us how awesome this “greatest film never made” would have been.

Highly enjoyable exploration of an eccentric artists effort to break new ground in cinema. No science fiction fan should miss seeing this impressive near miss at creating a film that could have set the standard for this genre for 25 years. And even unfinished, the concept echoes through the film world with more power than most of the junk that actually made it to celluloid. Expand

Who knew cult filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky spent years on a film version of Frank Herbert's DUNE? JODOROWSKY'S DUNE is a true treat for film buffs but the doc suffers from the same platitudes you'd expect from a VH1 documentary. Everything is brilliant, the best, and Jodorowsky is called a genius repeatedly. Really? His DUNE sounds both fascinating and trite at the same time. It would have been wonderful to have this film produced but what would have been the outcome? Planning does not a masterwork make. But Jodorowsky himself is great company and he comes across like an excited kid who carries no bitterness. Bravo to him! Expand
