A singular look, an exemplary vocal cast, and a narrative arc like a caress. That'll be the Kung Fu Panda franchise's legacy, the idea that shouldn't have worked but did, beautifully and with its own chi.

The stakes are upped and character count doubled, but this doesn't mean attention to detail is spared. The visuals are sublime with different animation styles used to tell different stories.

It finds a benefit in its genre affiliation, evenly distributing its action in quick bursts of fluidly animated fight choreography.

Like most sequels, it pacifies its core demographic by offering “more of the same.” To that extent, it can be said to be successful.

Fitfully amusing and certainly heartfelt, this latest chapter in the likeable animated saga will work best with younger viewers, but its life lessons and emotional beats feel slathered on rather than deftly woven into the storyline.

Once upon a time, Black's charisma might have been enough to carry the movie.

It delivers in many of the same ways the first two movies did. Good comedy, good action sequences, good character development, a little bit of philosophy, soundtrack, animation, everything is good there, and it continues the story from the first and second movie.

-It does seem to reuse a lot of plot elements and jokes from the first two movies though, and the plot is beginning to feel formulaic, enough to the point where it is noticeable. But it brings a few new ones to the table.

-It seems one of the more light-hearted entries in the saga. If you liked the second one (I did) where it took itself a tad more seriously (while still having some comedy in it) you might be offset by the comical tone.

    +The spirit world is cool.

+I really liked seeing both of Po's fathers. (Adopted and Biological and their development and interaction.) Was done very well in the movie. (That shouldn't be a spoiler, it was in the trailer.)

To me it sort of feels like I'm watching The Legend of Korra KFP. You can tell they really tried to make this spectacular, and live up to what came before it, but it's just good. Not amazing, but good. If you liked the previous movies and want to see the next installment of the story, see it. If you don't really care for the franchise, then don't.
