Even with its abundant flaws and its willingness to embarrass itself this strange and extraordinary film never lost me and never let me go; it wrapped me in a dreamlike rapture and then in a sense of profound and nearly universal personal tragedy.
While the sexuality is pushed far too far for mainstream audiences, it's also true that Noe's conception of sentiment and romance pulls the film back from being truly transgressive about its gender or sexuality politics.
I'm a fan of Gaspar Noe and I'm a hard one to shock, but this one got me during a few moments. I see that "Love" is one of the worst rated movie from Noe and I kinda understand why some of the audition may consider it as cheap-porn-like-movie, but for me it was a pleasure to watch and melt myself into universe exposed in characters' trio. Amazing scenes of sex and reflections on characters' past. Plus, the brunette is my crush... even with those teeth!
Is this film just about sex, just because it shows sexual actions in very explicit and many scenes? No its about love. This sex scenes were shoot in a very aesthetic, but also realistic looking way , not terrible over the top and totally stereotypical unrealistic like in many Hollywood movies. But for me this movie is not just a pseudo-controversial-provocative film about sex. Its definitely about love. And you can feel that, also when you dont live in a relationship with someone. The cadres are beautiful, i love the long cuts and pauses with short black screens, which brings a huge charming, quiet and romantic atmosphere. Its also a ironic movie about film making and directing cliches, a funny way to say something about his love about movies. Also sometimes beeing very epileptic the film does need some time. But if you swim with its atmospheric, beautiful shot river, you will enjoy this!
In the end, Love is more silly than sordid, and even a little soppy in its late – too late – love-filled moments. Many teens will love it; most adults will roll their eyes.
Love, a movie with very little to say about relationships and even less to say about sex, is somehow one of the most interesting attempts any filmmaker has made in recent years at conveying the experience of memory.
Good camerawork only goes so far. Love drags on and on, alternating between arguments and intimacy, breakups and makeups. The movie never passes the authenticity test; if this is what sex feels like, we’ll all soon be extinct.
This film is absolutely genius! First of all, for anyone that gets caught up in the sex scenes, you probably haven't had sex, or even good sex for that matter, in years. If you have a loving relationship were you make love, you get this film. If you have a close relationship intimate wise you will understand the film. It's not appealing to the prude and those scared of their genitals, or those not in touch with themselves sexually.
if you have never had a serious physical bonding with someone you will never get the film and only be disturbed because people on the screen where doing the naughty. I love the scene in the bar where the french man is basically saying "you Americans don't know how to live, let you and your partner be free, you don't always have to have control, so I let another man F-- my wife, so, as long as she knows to come back, what's the problem?" Most Americans, not all, view sex like it's icky or something. Ever have make up sex, sex where it's ugly, crying, still kissing, everyone has experienced that I think, if not, then you haven't lived. I know there are a lot of prude Americans because they don't how to BE sexually in my opinion. That's why they get upset with the ****. It's always the conservative dude that probably hasn't had sex in 10 years or even shows affection to his wife. He's just there as a bill payer. Either way, the sex scenes in Love are honest, REAL and fluid. You should be able to get this no matter what age. It's funny to read comments from idiots that have to laugh at it or make gross comments. You don't get it. Gaspar - you tell a beautiful, moving story of REAL LIFE, brings us some more. You are brilliant.
While far less engaging than other Gaspar Noé movies, Love explores the love life of its very unlikeable protagonist with all the stylish editing, beautiful cinematography and explicit sex you would expect from him.
It's almost impossible to feel any sympathy for its main character, but his story was still mostly interesting to watch. The sex scenes tie together an okay drama elevated by Noé's unique style.
Artistically and technically impressive, though aside from its unsimulated sex scenes and some trippy sequences, doesn't offer the type of out-of-body experience that most Noé fans would expect.
It’s a daring move for director Gaspar Noe to start "Love" off with a climax- but he’s a daring director with a career for cinephiles to follow. Martin a self professed sentimental romantic film student in Paris navigates love and commitment through the eye of his ****. Sex in love. Sex out of love. Sexual consequences as the same carnal acts are repeated as the partners drift apart. A transcontinental mating game that tries your patience yet still reveals some truths in between the sheets.
shame its a real shame that the visionary director of enter the void a surreal masterpiece has made this dreadful film and it makes me sad that france the birth place of the Avant-Garde cinema is now the birth place of such films i really had high expectations from this movie and Gaspar Noé i hope in his next movies he will make better effort and put his magnificent directing in a good movie with a strong script not a porn film with the name of an experimental piece. i hope the best of luck for this great argentinian director. by the way John Carpenters score was devine the only good thing in this movie.
Total POS.... tell those folks to shave! This is not acting....horrible save your time please....Even a porn movie has a better plot. The only part I liked is when I fast forwarded till it said THE END
