Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T. rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression. But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he—alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob—ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill, the world’s first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind from annihilation. Minions' all-silliness all-the-time philosophy will put a smile on faces and keep it there, like a fizzy beverage on a hot afternoon.

While the minions are certainly little, yellow and different, Minions has probably mined them for about as much comedy as they can provide as leading men.

Farty, burpy, fall-y over fun tied to a pretty inconsequential plot. Your kids will explode with joy.

With its episodic stream of slapstick gags, Minions has moment of piquant absurdity, but mostly it’s shrill-but-cutesy anarchy works as a visual sugar rush for the preschool set.

The bottom line is that the filmmakers are working with nothing here — no characters to speak of, no interpersonal relationships, no story with any suspense or capacity to engage, and no script with any humor or wit. What can they do?

Minions is the prequel film that explains how the Minions came to be and how they met their master, Gru. Being a fan of the first 2 DespicableMinions is the prequel film that explains how the Minions came to be and how they met their master, Gru. Being a fan of the first 2 Despicable Me films, I was very hopeful that this would be good, but also very scared, because honestly, there's not enough substance to carry a whole film. Overall, it's not as good as the films before it, but it is still a nice addition to the franchise. I thought hearing just the minions for an hour and a half would get very tiresome, but they managed to make it work by adding human characters, while still keeping focus on the Minions. In this film we have an all-star cast that ranges from Sandra Bullock to Geoffrey Rush and Micheal Keaton. They all did a fine job at the rules they were given. I do have a few complaints with the film. It does seem to drag on a little bit but still manages to pick itself back up by the finale. A lot of the jokes were pointed towards kids, even more so than both Despicable Me, but the best jokes are the ones that kids may not get. There is a ton of references to 60's culture, and it's pretty cool to see something for the adults to enjoy. My biggest problem is that the story is really all over the place, It can't really stay focused on one thing for more than 10 minutes, and it gets a bit distracting. Overall, with a killer soundtrack and a ton of humor kids and adults will enjoy, even with the crumby story and a few flat jokes, Minions is still an enjoyable animated film, just not the best one this year. If your kid must see it, rent the DVD put him or her in front of the TV and go do something else. The movie is like an animated docudrama about the history of the Minons. It is not funny, glorifies rebellion against authority, celebrates evil, seemingly takes joy in the destruction of church architecture. There is unnecessary sexuality as well. It has little plot, no theme, and no redeeming underlying message. I'd rather pay full price to watch Ishtar in the theater rather than see this movie again. Yes, I said Ishtar. Expand
