A docudrama that in its early scenes feels like a documentary — the co-directors have a nonfiction background, and the actors are actual carnival performers — the film plays out like a small-scale fairy tale.
Ms. Covi and Mr. Frimmel’s Mister Universo is a disarming and humane picture, an unexpected delight.
His endeavor is one not of major strife but of minor flashes of magic.
The film eventually replaces the captivating smallness of everyday life with an inconsequential drama.
