I thought this was very good. It's a little slow going initially but picks up and becomes less mystery and more of a good horror film as it goes along. The first part of the movie is moody and creepy and the second part is suspenseful. I'm not sure I understand the critics' criticisms. There isn't tremendous depth to the characters but who cares? That's not what this sort of movie is at all about. The plot twist was perfectly acceptable IMO. Expand

Critics here on Metacritic don't seem to be too keen on this film but I definitely enjoyed it. I’m a big fan of Sharlto Copley so I went into this movie knowing nothing more than he was in it and that it was a thriller. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the film thanks to great performances, an engaging story and a nice twist ending that takes a way too familiar genre of this day and makes it unique and new. sorry guys but this movie deserves better! the begins is strange and confused but when the story walk more steps, the movie is really good and is not a annoying cliché movie of zombies and infection! is a really good movie, a little slow like ortho said but really good

The screenplay by Eddie and Chris Borey fails to live up to the juiciness of the original premise, lacking meaningful character development and teasing out its unveiling of its mysterious plot elements in dull, plodding fashion.

The road to the finale is littered with dead bodies and red herrings, but Open Grave is more notable for its laid-back approach to storytelling than for its plot twists. That's a kind way of saying it's sort of boring.

Unfortunately, with the exception of Jonah, the rest of the characters aren't much more fleshed-out than the screeching beasties.
