  1. It's entertaining nonsense with major league special effects, larger-than-life characters and inventive monsters that draw on the "Aliens" and "Predator" models, being terrifying but also vaguely sympathetic.

Outlander is interesting as a collision of genres: the monster movie meets the Viking saga. You have to give it credit for carrying that premise to its ultimate (if not logical) conclusion.

There isn't a single scene in this story about a traveler from another planet (Jim Caviezel) who crash-lands on Earth during the Iron Age that doesn't remind you of another, better movie.

Watch it. You'll like it. I haven't seen a fantasy/sci-fi flick like this since the good ol' before cgi back in the day movies. The genre is stuck being manipulated by Sci-fi Channel n' created into b-rated original made for tv movies. This one takes the freakin' cake. It's been a long time coming. If you hate lord of the Rings because of it's "boringness." This movie will brighten u up! Expand

Why has no one mentioned the blatantly obvious Beowulf plotline? The original, not the Jolie crapfest. Its a great take on the ancient story, presenting a semi-plausible method to bring Beowulf's monster to life. Expand

I really wanted to like this movie. I mean Vikings and Aliens and Alien monsters, what more could you want, right? But it was mediocre at best. I just lacked in the effects and script. More appropriate for the SciFi Channel and their B movie repertoire. Maybe it's a B+ movie...but still in the B movie sphere. Expand
