It's got all the balls in it's oversized sac. A bloody excellent movie! And if anyone disagrees, send them round, I'll show them the meaning of stand and deliver.

Enjoyable from start to finish but is obviously not high cinema and will detract from your viewing if you treat it as such. It's dark, gritty, romantic and evil shameful fun, taking a distinct tangent from similar period stuffs in this genre. Also, the scene where an injured Macleane awakes to find a Lady Rebecca at his table is wonderful. Carlyle is consistently exceptional in everything he does, including this. Expand

Simple plot with a great sound track. Love the time period.

It would seem to be a somewhat accurate depiction of an interesting age and conveys a lot of atmosphere. The cinematography is excellent. The interactions between the characters are entertaining. The soundtrack is unusual and very good. And Liv Tyler is gorgeous (!).

I really despise the user reviews on metacritic, especially when this is one of the highest rated. It's just not a fun movie to watch, the comedy is incredibly dry and not funny, there is no real sense of adventure as all the environments are neither impressive or grand, and the acting could use some serious work.

It doesn't really hang together. And waaay too much style. Pity.

Lewd, crude and occasionally too brutal to take, it's also gorgeous, heartfelt.

A cross between a Hogarth painting and an MTV video, Plunkett & Macleane cuts quite a swath.
