Laura- There is something that many people refer to as a trailer, which shows you what the movie with be about. I am assuming you saw what the movie contained yet you still go in and act surprised with what the movie was about. It's clear going in to the movie that it is like Heroes, X-Men and others among that vein. If you don't like those then guess what? You may not find Push entertaining. By the way, there are very few movies that deserve a 1/10, and a movie with good special effects and good acting does not deserve a 1. Your basically saying this was just as bad or worse than Disaster Movie, which means you lose all credibility with your review. Oh and this movie was not the best not the worst, but I enjoyed it a lot. Expand

I didn't expect much when I first heard about this movie, but having seen it I would recommend it to almost anyone. There are some parts that are not explained well even for the lore of the movie (ex. building shade) but overall it is a cool display of superpowers and plot. The end blew me away with its planning. Harsh critics will hate it and if you aren't willing to let the new world that has been dreamed up envelope you then much of the charm will simply be lost. Expand

Don't listen to the reviews for this movie. This movie is a great time filled with interesting characters in a world that is as mysterious as it is intriguing. I was completely unaware that after watching this movie more than a dozen times that I was being subjected to a bad and tasteless film until I reconnected to the hive mind here. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you passed this movie up just because some jaded film reviewer apparently doesn't remember how to enjoy themselves at the movies. Expand

The movie received bad reviews from critics, but honestly, it really wasn't that bad of a ride. It's got decent pacing, some fun action, and a few very clever jokes. Sometimes it's the movie you would least expect that delivers a couple of hours of freedom from your work week, rather than the large-budget films that receive such great scores simply because of social pressure.

Whilst the plot was clichéd and convoluted, I was very pleased to find that none of the chacracters fell into the typical stereotypes. Throughout the film I was expecting many of them to turn out to be traitors working for Division but it seems that Hollywood has finally grown out of that tired plot device. The film was stylish and well put together, with some nice ideas. As I said the plot suffers from some holes, but the likeable characters make up for this as far as I'm concerned. I'd love to see the cast return for another outing to finish off the story. Expand

Don't let the critics fool you on this one. Remember, they are paid to give their opinion and most of them probably didn't want to see Push and dislike this entire genre. That said, Push was hella rad. Setting the whole thing in Hong Kong was a genius stroke that allowed for a more urgent and almost claustrophobic feel, which is in line with the plight of the central characters. The plot is clearly deravitive of X2 or Volume 4/Fugitives of Heroes, but that's what makes this movie so great. We all want (a) realistic bad guy(s) who is/are really BAD and good guys who are in serious peril and may or may not survive and Push delivers on this premise. If you pay attention and understand what each of the character's powers are and how they can be manifested in different situations, the third act will be anything but confusing, right down the mult-interpretive ending. Since the screen fades to black, what actually does happen in that final scene? Hopefully this will kill at the box office and franchise will be born. Expand

Fantastic film. By no means perfect but the unpolished nature of the film gave it a, may be hard to believe, realism. The tension and flow of the film contadicted each other to allow the film to hold the attention and yet not be overthought. Definitely hoping for a sequel with the same cast, including Djimon Hounsou who I think is an incredible actor.

good movie, good idea and good actors, but jumps around too much. They spend very little time explaining the important parts of the movie and rush threw much of it. I had a conversation with some people and they ask me if i wanted it dumbed down, no its just that there are portions of the film that would have improved with a little more care and attention to it. They mentions what they needed to mention, but if u stop paying attention for a second or so, u might miss an important scene that lasted for a whold ten seconds. in other moves the emphize the important scenes, in this movie they just come and go with little warning. All and all this is a good movie, but if ur like me and have moments where u stop paying attention or r watching it with a bunch of talkers, youll have to watch it twice to see the moments youve missed, but in the end even with out those scenes, the plot is simple enough where u can fill in the gap. its just not having to fill in those gaps would be nice. The critics for this movie do it grave injustice only showing how shallow and formula Hollywood has become in order for an action movie to become successful. Something that has to be appreciated in this movie is that it blends not only classic action flick sequences and story lines, but it also adds a very in depth plot twist that comes together very well at the end. To simply it for some of you, it means this movie requires you to "think". This isn’t just a simple story line littered with ungodly expensive special effects with a story line that is full of holes and a weak plot (Transformers 2, I’m looking at you), it is a comic book movie based on a series that achieves a great story with a limited budget. It also has a very refreshing plot scene, soundtrack, and direction for Push. While Push has been described by some as a Heroes mixed with X-files knockoff, these critics are individuals that don’t truly appreciate comic book and super hero genres, whose only experience with this world is probably with TV shows such as Heroes, of which they probably only scan through an episode or two, but have zero experience and appreciation with actual comic book storylines and scifi in general. You wouldn’t get a country fiddle player to critique a concert pianist, or a trained opera singer to judge a folk singer, or a Pro golfer to score a NCAA wrestling match, so why would you get a hack no talent columnist/movie critic whose top three favorite movies probably include My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Mama Mia, and Scary Movie, to critique this movie? This movie begs to have a sequel, but unfortunately, thanks to Hollywood’s short attention span that caused the negative criticism that it did, this movie will probably not receive a second chance. That’s a shame, because with a bigger budget, this movie could honestly be a classic. Expand

This movie was fantastic, although it looks like from the reviews you'll either hate it or love it. It's worth watching certainly if you love super hero movies or the matrix. In fact it really feels like it could be a great solid franchise (just better) than the matrix. Sadly because it got panned so badly I don't think this will happen. Fantastic movie though. As a long-time fan of superhero movies, I can say that this was the best one I've seen in a LONG time. The special effects/special abilities of the characters are used sparingly, and some of the best "powered" scenes are ones that use no special effects of all--resulting in a subtlety severely lacking in larger budget movies like X2. That said, there are plenty of effects-heavy scenes to satisfy the viewer craving eye-candy. But these scenes still juxtapose the iridescent shimmer of a telekinetic shield with the garbage and detritus of a Hong Kong construction site, creating an interplay of science fiction elements with the grungy reality. Carefully read through the critics' reviews on this movie regarding the plot. Among the negative reviewers, you'll find two camps--ones that found the plot "too convoluted" and ones that found that it "didn't make sense." Feel free to read that as "don't like to think while watching movies" and "didn't bother thinking while watching." The plot is intense, and as much of a puzzle for the viewer to solve as it is a life or death race for the characters to survive. The last fourth of the movie where the protagonist lays out his plan has an almost Ocean's Eleven feel to it, occluding the true nature of his plans from his teammates and the audience, forcing the viewer to attempt to guess at his final solution even as the plot unfolds. A pretty good movie, albeit with some obvious and not so obvious flaws. A obvious are just the name of the movie as well as the names of the types of psychics (movers, pushers, watchers, sniffers), it's all very simplistic and definitely seems like slang names that some ghetto characters would use, but EVERYBODY USES THEM, it's ridiculous, even the government agencies. Also Nick (Chris Evans) is a real wimp for most of the movie, yet is still likeable, just it makes you like the bad guys better because they make such better use of their powers. it's a cliffhanger, and i'm honestly looking forward to a sequel just to see how it continues. How can a film about people with enviable abilities such as telekinesis and future telling be so dull? This was the question circling around my head whilst watching this film. As a whole the film doesn’t appear to have any direction, much like it’s central characters. Evans and Belle as the lead couple are both uncharismatic and look bored throughout. And this essentially goes for the rest of the cast. The only cast member who appears to be putting any effort in is Fanning, playing an already world weary young girl trying to learn how to use her skill, her acting puts the adults to shame. Even the action is dull, as our young central characters learn to hone their skills you would expect the action sequences to likewise become more powerful eye candy, however, it doesn’t, it just continues to be dull. Overall, a film that had so much potential ends up being dull because of a lack of any sense of direction, and poor casting. Expand

I liked it a lot. I thought it was interesting how deep the backstory was and how far they could potentially take it. The story was a little jumbled, but it was justified being that most of the plot was planned over 13 years beforehand by a powerful psychic. The action sequences were well done and the acting was well especially Fanning who changed the characters she usually plays completely and did it quite well. I gave it an 8 because it was very well executed but some of the characters (the shadow for instance) seemed to be simply thrown in. Expand

Fish heads explode, but no human ones, when a mover shatters glass tanks like one of Phillip Kaufman's body snatchers at an outdoor market, much to the disappointment of David Cronenburg fans everywhere, who delight in a little brain matter with their telekinesis. "Push" has watchers, movers, pushers, but alas, no scanners. Cassie(Dakota Fanning) is a watcher; she spends most of her time drawing a future that she and Nick(Chris Evans) are trying to change. When Kira(Camilla Belle) joins their makeshift family, the future changes, for the worse. For awhile, the local color offered by the eastern setting lends "Push" an atmosphere that offsets the banality of the story's premise. Two factions, an American outfit and a Chinese outfit, are fighting over a suitcase that contains a psychic steroid that will boost a pusher's ability. Too bad Cassie, nor her Chinese counterpart with daddy issues, can't write. Fanning, who at thirteen, is a child actor in transition, just as Jodie Foster was when she appeared in Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver", around the same age. In "Push", the tweener gets to be a taxi rider, as she tries her best to ground this obtuse sci-fi/action film with the same brio she brings to every role; this time, as an artist who plies her gift like an artisan. Her aesthetics is functionality. What modest pleasures that the Hong Kong locales offer in ways of diversion, are soon negated by Nick's nonsensical plan to thwart the watcher with daddy issues. He confuses Pop Girl(Lu Lu), and he confuses the audience. The plan is diffuse, not clever nor intricate, and it kills the story's momentum. "Push" turns into a game of follow the luggage. Expand

Simply awful, incoherent, and you don’t care about any of the characters and the movie goes on forever—retreading the same route over and over again. It’s suppose to be about psychic powers but there is nary one believable moment and the hunt seems purposeless. Yeah, the director probably thinks it’s brilliant to have loaded guns being controlled by the mind and not the hand—but the effect is incredibly stupid. Dakota Fanning plays practically the entire movie in a short miniskirt and gets drunk—what message is the moviemaker trying to send? The movie gets some credit for the Hong Kong locale and “pushers” irises going wide when they try to control your mind. Expand

Push sounded like a cool movie when I heard about it. Not long into the movie I realized that I was wrong. It starts with the toolbag main character who is hopelessly dependant on a 13-year-old girl(never a good sign). His moronic friends didn't help much either. Even the fight scenes aren't any good. You can't review this movie without mentioning those two gay chinese guys that scream all the time. Did that seem rascist to anyone else? The movie had great special effects and some cool -- if not a bit far-out -- powers (come on, blowing up fish by screaming?). That said, it has a plot that's kind of like 500 oz. of grey molasses in a 250 oz. tank: It's slow moving, boring, and they try to fit too much into one movie by leaving complete webs of questions unanswered. What a mess! Push is easily one of the worst action films I've ever seen! Between flat and unlikable characters to dull action, Push gets just about everything wrong. It's campy, it's silly, and painfully un-watchable. Push is much more confusing than it needs to be. In the end, it's just about a group of people trying to get a case before the "bad guys" get it. Put less simply, it's about people with a range of psychic abilities who are in a race against The Division (a powerful government that "rules" these superior beings) to find a case that contains a "billion dollar secret." The plot makes much less sense on film. In specific, the plot follows a man named Nick (Chris Evans), who is just out of his teen years, and still doesn't really have a good grip on his ability (levitation). He meets a girl named Cassie (Dakota Fanning) who convinces him (sort of) to join her on a quest to find the case. Cassie herself is a "watcher," someone who can see into the future. She draws what she sees, and based on what she sees, Cassie and Nick may not survive this adventure. As I mentioned previously, the plot is much more complicated on film. None of the abilities in Push are very cool, and none are very original. We get people who can levitate, people who can see into the future, people who can control your mind, etc. These are all things we've seen before. Been there, done that. The one new ability that Push has made is....screaming. Yes, believe it or not, Push's only innovative ability is the ability to scream. Granted, it's a scream that can destroy structures, people, etc., but in the end, it's just some creepy Asian guy screaming like a maniac. It's stupid and campy. And as if that wasn't bad enough, there are THREE villains with this ability. Push also doesn't know what kind of a movie it wants to be. Does it want to be a light, comedic action flick? A hard, heavy, end of the world film? Maybe an intelligent heist film? Push, unsuccessfully, attempts to do all three. As if I have to say it; this really doesn't work. The acting, though not awful, never gets much better than mediocre. And early on, the acting even seems a little clunky. As if Push isn't already bad off, it also suffers from an overwhelming number of obvious plot holes. And there is little characters development, if any. Most of the characters don't even have a definitive personality. The action scenes are usually brief, with no actual fights occurring. Just someone getting beat up, with a victor we can already predict. There are few exceptions. During the end, we get a long, action filled climax, but it's more tedious than exciting. And beware, the ending is a major cop-out. The one positive thing I can say about Push (aside from it's vaguely unique premise), is it's skilled editing. It shows snippets of future events than goes back to the past. The editing is just very well done, I'll give it that. Push is campy, tedious, cheesy, confusing, and stupid. It tries to be three different films at once, and character development is omitted entirely. Plot holes abound, action scenes are dull. Outside of camp value, Push has few redeeming qualities. Expand
