An uninteresting piece of non-entertainment. Whoever put this together needs to be ashamed.

Not brilliant by any stretch, and certainly not for anyone interested in character development, but has moments of breathtaking silliness. If you're not in the mood, you'll probably hate it. If you're feeling playful and willing to go along for a mindless ride, you'll probably pound your fists laughing half a dozen times. Which doesn't pass for great cinema, but it's more than most alleged comedies manage these days. My girlfriend and I weren't expecting much from the previews. About an hour into things we both realized we were belly-laughing fairly often. Expand

Vegas was great! It started out exciting then it was downhill as soon as it hit the road. The mumbling guy was the funniest thing. Istill think it would be a good rental for the family.

This movie was non-stop laughter, Jon Lovitz was just great, as well as the rest of the cast. Rowan Atkinson should do way more movies, cause he can do wonders with a poorly thought-up character. Despite poor performances by John Cleese, and Seth Green (who shouldn?t be allowed to play comedic roles).. i give it a 10.

Makes itself known to be both tasteless and sweet, some jokes work, some jokes don't. But the jokes that do work are some of the funniest since "Dogma."

Silly, sure! But this is totally offset by the talent of the the cast! It's a silly movie that shouldn't have tried to be anything more than a silly movie. This cast could've easily saved this film. I think though that Jerry Zucker wanted this movie to be more, and that was a huge mistake. I thought the ending of the movie was uninspired and rushed however.

What wonderful taste is demonstrated in the final scene. Too bad other scenes in the movie didn't live up to it (a.k.a. child molestation, punctured human heart.) The ensemble casting (the greatest asset being Seth Green) is quite good. It's obvious that "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" was on the minds of the makers. I liked it, but not enough to recommend.

I'm usually a total comedy snob. In this genre of comedy there is very little that I really like. Where this movie succeeds is in a whole new original kind of slap-stick that forces you to chuckle at least at its inventiveness.

How do people think this movie is good? Rat Race is a horrible, annoying, and unfunny movie that should've never been made.

Four of us saw this movie last night, and we all agreed that it was one of the worst movies we had ever seen! Its trailer looked like it was a bad movie, but since the producers had made "Airplane"--a really funny movie, I had some hope that it would be OK. Unfortunately, it was as bad as its trailer.

This was a delightful slapstick masterpiece. Probably the funniest movie I have ever seen, even though some don't appreciate the humor. I could watch it non-stop, and I pretty much did. I was only lucky I didn't wet my pants.

This rating is only when the movie is compared to "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World," which is the best comedy ever made. Too bad they had to pathetically try to rip it off and give NO CREDIT to the original.

I rated this movie a ten because of its originality, not so much it's them but the occurences within the story. All are original and very funny. It has a large and talented cast and not one moment goes by were you wish you handn't paid that $8.50 to see it.

I cringed during the whole heart-transplant sequence and the obvious Lucy jokes, but there were compensations, not the least of which was Jon Lovitz in Hitler's car. Amiable enough, with a sappy ending.

WHY do critics always say the funniest movies are horrible? This movie was so enjoyable and full of humor that I didn't want it to end. It was the prefect length, and Jon Lovitz and his family were hilarious. As wzs Seth Green. There were some problems, though. The ending was somewhat of a dissipointment, and Mr. Bean was annoying. Otherwise, though, a great movie.

Basic plot is a Rich Casino owner setups up a competition with Random people in the Casino to race to a destination where $1 million is up for grabs.
Now the main issue. Every single person involved in this has issues or is completely insane. There is not a single sane moment. The film explodes in Slapstick style with idiotic moments throughout. Its almost as if they had an stupidity play
book and were marking things off as they go. A lot of the jokes are pretty tasteless.
The characters get a bit of development throughout but its not enough for you to side with anyone. This may be the point of the film. The film closes in a friendly manner but the film just doesn't have any redeeming features. I really would not recommend this to anyone.

An ensemble cast of such comedy talent as this should really be funnier. The two biggest hitters woefully under-perform - Rowan Atkinson relies on his tried-and-tested Mr Bean facial expressions along with an awful Italian accent, and John Cleese just has goofy false teeth and his Basil Fawlty laugh. The premise of the film should be comedy gold - eccentric millionaires betting on a rag-tag group of misfits racing towards a bag of money in New Mexico, but the only character relationship in the film that is even remotely rewarding to watch is between Brecklin Meyer's chilled-out attorney and Amy Smart's helicopter pilot with "issues". Their scenes are are sweet and funny, but far too infrequent. You've unfortunately got to spend time with all the other characters, who are all annoying and 2-dimensional. The funniest thing in the whole film is an unexpected cameo by Kathy Bates as a lady selling squirrels to passing motorists. Who is this film for? It's presented like a kid's cartoon show, but also has swearing, sex and childbirth jokes, and even a sequence featuring neo-Nazis. So it's not for intelligent adults, nor for children who don't know any better. We can only conclude that Jerry Zucker is catering for idiots. Rat Race has a couple of smile-worthy jokes, Smash Mouth generously perform at the film's finale, and I suppose you could say that it trying (mostly unsuccessfully) to comment on the greed of human nature, but beyond that it's a childish, insultingly dumb and unfunny affair. Hilarious film with an uncountable amount of great actors pitching in. My only issue is regarding the ending - how cheesy could you get? I didn't ask for a heartwarming comedy. I feel heartless saying this, but I'm being honest.

A pretty clever movie with lots of big names. Everybody has their moments and there is laughs throughout the movie. The really good thing about the film is that it is a teenage sex comedy which is a relief.

  1. There's nothing more enervating than a stupid film with only random, and perhaps accidental, flashes of smarts; the rare prescient moments only serve to highlight how banal and vacant the rest of the movie is, especially when it stoops to conquer the gross-out market bled dry by the Farrelly Brothers and their myriad acolytes.
  2. 75
Rat Race isn't a stupid movie -- it's an aggressively stupid movie that journeys into realms of absurdity that are, well, aggressively funny.
  3. 38
Despite these flaws, people sick of gross-out films and teen-sex comedy may be so hungry for farce that they laugh.
