On the big screen, "Reno 911" obviously resembles the "Police Academy" franchise more than it does the reality show "Cops". Although none of the actors or situations transcend our talking furniture, this ensemble group has some chemistry and is capable of being sporadically funny; in particular, Deputy Trudy Wiegel's blind spot in regards to Lieutenant Jim Dangle's orientation. Their almost-encounter leads to a somewhat amusing spoof on body doubles(this scene works in concert with the opening grandiose sequence as a juxtaposition between film and television; during the apparent consumation, the film turns more cinematic). The film has wit; some self-reflexivity. It reminds you that you're watching Comedy Central with a group of strangers. But luckily, "Reno 911: Miami" is relatively painless; sort of like watching television. Is it worth paying eleven bucks for? Sure, like I said; it's a painless, not a painful comedy. Paying for basic cable at the cineplex is a lot better than having to live through another "Soul Plane". Expand

HYSTERICAL!!! The entire theatre was cracking up. Obviously this movie is really for fans of the show, I noticed several of the old jokes were recycled for newbies, but really those who already love these characters and know their previous espcapes are going to love this movie. Never truely reaches the comedic gold that was the first 2 seasons of the show but still very very funny. Hopefully new audiences will discover it later down the road and will influence them to watch the show. I've noticed a lot of people complained about lack of script and story, to understand this comedy troupe they work best without a script doing improv playing off one another. If anything the movie was weakest because they actually had to follow a storyline somewhat. Regardless good good stuff. Trudy Wiegal never fails to put a smile on my face, "this hotel feels like a place for a good old fashion rapin'". Expand

Amusing but really stupid. Just wait till it's out on DVD and borrow it from a friend. Keep your ten bucks for gas.

The opening scene, with Danny DeVito, immediately let me know that this movie was going to disappoint - uninspired, contrived, embarassing. Don't get me wrong, there are some hilarious scenes (especially the shot of the motel where you can see into all of the officers' room windows at once and what they're all simultaneously "doing"). But for every one hilarious scene, there's one that only bemuses you, and two that make you groan. Expand

This movie was terrible. I thought it was going to be really funny. It was pathetic, only a few scenes were funny, but the rest? Just utterly pathetic. Don't waste your time watching this.

Absolutely dumb comedy with a Russian topless model in one episode. That's why I give it 2 instead of 0.

If you love the TV show, you'll "get" the movie. If you don't like the show, you won't like the movie. Yeah, the plot is thin. So what? The show is funny regardless of the plot.

I really wanted to like it. Really, I did. I just think these marvelous improvers work better in short skits rather than a full length "narrative".

Fans of the show won't be disappointed. People new to Reno 911 should brace themselves for improvisation and satire next to the more conventional humor shown in trailers. DVD extras include extended segments where the actors are allowed to just keep inventing punchlines -- great stuff.

I expected so much more from this gifted comedy group. They should have just thrown together a Reno 911 greatest moments. Now THAT would be a movie!

LOVED IT!!!! It is not supposed to be fine art or oscar material. It is supposed to make you laugh outloud at how inept the deputies and Dangle are. Hilarious brainless entertainment. :)

If you thought the TV show was bad, just wait until you see this. Someone must have sold their soul to Satan to get this pile of horse manure into theaters.

Was surprised at just how uninspired this movie is... really just an overly long but average episode of the TV series. The TV show is mildly amusing but this does not take it to another level at all, except 3 times the mediocre-ness. Pretty pointless, I'm disappointed. Surprised that they even bothered to release this in theatres.

It was ok. A lot like the tv show and it did have a few funny moments but it was a bit too boring at most parts and did make you lose interest a bit. Its pretty much Reno 911 in long form, It was ok.

The TV show excels with its short squad-car bursts of random inanity; here, the plot -- stretched out to 84 minutes -- feels like a dime bag tossed aside by a fleeing perp.

This is not high art. It might not qualify as low art. But it is 90 minutes or so during which people can put their brains on the shelf and enjoy a few laughs.
  3. It probably cost less than the catering budget of average Adam Sandler comedy and, in its own hit-and-miss scattershot fashion, it's about as funny. At least when it hits.
