With Jackson leading the way, Shaft has style, punch, and street cred. It's a hot cool update.
  2. If nothing else, Shaft is spicy fast food.
  3. Shaft is still enormously involving. It's popcorn, but very fresh.

Shaft scores by lacing ba-da-boom action with social pertinence.

(If) you're one of those killjoys who demands logic, coherence and a semblance of human life from a movie, this one will leave you cold.

Shaft? Not in this splashy-but-empty remake he isn't.
  7. Singleton's version is cynical and silly--one long set-up to a closing scene that promises, or threatens, a sequel.

Shaft is a cool remake with Samuel L.Jackson as Shaft. Shaft is a detective and he is trying to prosecute a racist played by Christian Bale. Bale murders a young coloured man and the murder is racially motivated. The movie has a ton of action and refined acting. Toni Collette from The Sixth Sense also has a good role as the witness to the murder. Shaft deserves the utmost praise it is a fantastic action thriller. Expand

Not much to expect here, thus it lived up to my expectations. It's pretty much your classic action flick except with Samuel L. Jackson in the lead, which makes it that much better. Jackson really makes this movie, because with him, it would just be a total disaster. But, with him, it's average entertainment. Expand
