Seriously, I don't understand all those bad ratings. This film is like the incarnation of the word "epic". The final fight scene is among the best ever created, filled with epic dialogues, awesome music composed by Mr. Williams and a fight with speed, power and energy. That's how a fight is supposed to be. And yet the film has more to offer than just action. It has a very dark atmosphere and a quite deep story for an action movie. Palpatine's corruption is well written and you even can see the movie as a metaphor to our real life in a few ways. This movie is just one of the best movies ever made, and it's even better than the original Star Wars a new hope. Why? Because it grew up, it's not just about good vs. uberevil, but it's a story of the chosen one, Anakin, who falls to the dark side because of love, and you can see what people are willing to do because of love. Episode III is by far the greatest film in the new trilogy, and it stands against the original 3 in epic awesomeness. An incredible conclusion to the greatest saga ever told.

Albeit flawed, Revenge of the Sith brings Star Wars to a satisfying close, is able to rectify George Lucas into a good film maker and draw many lost fans back into the universe. Don't expect another Empire, but also don't get into the mindset of it being as bad as the previous. All things considered, Revenge of the Sith is well filmed, well thought out and with a fantastic performance by Ewan McGregor and a substantially improved performance from Hayden Christensen, Revenge is a pretty great film and worthy conclusion.… Expand

Episode III is the best of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, which reveals the story behind Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader and a couple other surprises.

Abysmal. Pretty, yes, as to be expected, but Lucas thin and simplistic attempts at "plot" are pathetic. Here I was expecting the mindf.ck of the century, to twist Annakin into Vader, and instead it's like the character walked through the revolving door of morality. No twenty minutes of psychological twisting to break him, nothing just "la-di-da, I'm good! I must uphold goodness!" "la di-da, I'm evil, let's kill some kids". And that's not even an exaggeration. This is the worst Star Wars movie ever made, hands down, and one of the worst movies PERIOD. NO amount of flash can take that away. In addition, Haden has the acting talent of my left testicle. He couldn't pull off a convincing CADAVER. In my mind, there are three star wars movies, only. The last three were pathetic attempts to leach money from fanboys and the unaware, with zero effort or skill put into dialogue, plot, or character development, and Lucas should be ashamed for prostituting his own creations so completely.… Expand

Amazing the best of the prequels ...the darkness that was not seen in attack of the clones showers through in revenge of the sith and the movie gave me more than i was expecting to get plus they killed the worst character to me count dooku who is played by the great christopher lee who i loved in lord of the rings but hated in attack of the clones so his death was a great thing to me..plus brutle made it better for me....the clone war scenes are just what fans had been waiting for since the 70's when it was briefly talked about.… Collapse

the best of the prequels

All of the positive reviews that I have read keep repeating the same statement, "Its the best of the prequels". This statement may be correct, it still does not count as a positive aspect of the film because, it is almost the definition of dampening a film with false praise. Revenge of the Sith has some enjoyable scenes for sure, it also contains; a platitude of monotonous scenes, bad pacing, piss-poor acting, and some of the worst dialogue of the entire prequel trilogy. It can be so disastrous at times its laughable "NOOOOOO!". For the people who liked the previous films you'll like this, however the only positive aspect of the film that comes to mind is the fact that it finally ends the prequel trilogy.… Expand

The morons whom talk about 'plot inconsistancies' obviously didn't pay very much attention to the story... Everything was tied together very cleverly.

this movie was the best out of the new trilogy, but i think the only major flaw was how padme dies after giving birth and in episode 6 leia says she remembers her mom as a sad but beautiful woman. WTF is that?? great job george lucas, its your own story and you add obvious holes in it. other than that i think it was cool how it ties in to episodes 4-6.

Star Wars just got good again, and it's about time. Never before has a movie in this series moved me in such an emotional way...to the brink of tears. Sheer brilliance.

Best movie of the three prequels by far I might even go as far as to say its second only to Empire,. The battle scenes are second to none. Very good movie.

ROTS is a nearly perfect Star Wars movie. It certainly has as much humanity as any of the originals. And when you add to that the amazing visual beauty of this film, one can only conclude that this is an instant classic.

Well I can tell you need to see this movie on the big screen for sure, it's really worth it. Don't wait for it to come on DVD, because it will never do it justice. As for the film, it's dark, imagine Saving Private Ryan in sci-fi space and thats about the right feel for it. So go see it and make your own judgement. This film sucks more than a $10 showgirl with no teeth. Obi Wan has a ridiculous beard, the actors always show slight bluescreen bewilderment, and massive space battles are about as impressive now as a playstation intro. This is less of a film than a two hour infomercial for Star Wars merchandise. Did the acting bug me? Not really. Was the dialogue heavy-handed? A bit, but not enough to be a distraction. So what got me down? The story, and that's really the point. As rushed as it might've been, the film did its job and told the story of Anakin's fall. People died. In droves. Hence, I couldn't really enjoy this because the whole plot revolved around cold, relentless destruction. But I give credit where credit is due and to that end this film was executed well enough to fulfill its intended purpose so as to complete the circle, etc. So if Lucas wanted to leave an impression...he has.… Expand

[***SPOILERS***] When I first met Star Wars in 1977 at the age of 11, I was mesmerized. Yesterday, opening day, seated beside me on each side were my 9 and 12-year-old sons; each fans in their own right. I have to say, what a strange, wonderful, satisfying trip it has been. Has it really been 28 years? I choked back the tears as Anakin kneeled before the Emperor, but I let them flow as the innocent, trusting younglings pleaded Anakin for help, not realizing he was about to kill them all. I felt Anakin needing, wanting, so much to be loved, and accepted, as many young men that grew up without a father. The Emperor was that father, though evil and he was able to give Anakin what he needed...unconditional acceptance; an acceptance of who Anakin was and what he wanted to be...someone who is all-powerful. We find that Anakin was conceived by his virgin mother immaculately, for one purpose, and that was to serve the dark side of the Force. The prophecy that Anakin would bring balance to the Force was misread, or at least a prophecy that will not come true for another generation depending on your point-of-view. I gave this movie a 9 because, well, there were a few clunky bits of dialogue and acting between Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman. But overall I was enthralled by this film, and came away from it both saddened that it was finally over and yet satisfied that "the circle is now complete." (BTW, I HATED Episodes I & II.) Completely delivered everything I'd hoped for. What is truly wonderful about EpIII, to me, is how beautifully it reaches out, pulls all 6 of these wonderful movies together, and actually adds to all of them. Thank you George Lucas for giving us this wonderful 6 part masterpiece of awesome adventure!!

Best one ever...what i've been waiting to find out for years now how he went to the darkside, brilliant, superb, electryfying.

Ok, this movie was one of the greatest movies I've seen. Now i understand that episodes I and II weren't up to snuff, to put it softly, but, to say that the second trilogy had little or no plot or character development, is to discredit yourself of all intelligence. Anakin begins in epsiode one as a boy, wanting to do good. As he gets older, he becomes disillusioned with how the jedi council is treating him; he thinks he deserves more, and instead of keeping him from turing, they only make it worse. There is no need for breaking ANakin, because he is already broken. He wants his love to survive, but he knows she might not. Since he trusts Palpatine, he belives in his words, that there may be a way to save her. He's not bad, his misguided, and to say that is not true plot or character development, is just crazy!… Expand

This is the best film of the year and the best Star Wars film yet, even surpassing The Empire Strikes Back.

Has the same issues as the other prequels: bad dialogue, bad acting, bad story. It has a few memorable moments and a satisfying ending, but it still doesn't come close to the original trilogy.

Insanly good movie. Good acting and graphics all around. Should buy it even if you're not a star wars fan.

I have seen all the Star Wars pictures(hey, I'm from North America, folks) even though I'm not particularly a Star Wars buff. Of all the Star Wars pictures, this is the only one with any serious emotional resonance for me. In the all the early Star Wars pictures, George Lucas was trying to recapture the old Flash Gordon serials in high tech terms with an overlay of New Age mysticism. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. This is the only movie, to be blunt, where I think George Lucas is doing some serious thinking. He's contemplating why someone might turn to (if one might use an old-fashioned term here) evil. This gives the whole thing a gravitas that the rest of the series simply doesn't have. While I suppose this film gives the viewer (to use a degraded bit of modern-day post-modern jargon) closure in respect to the character of Darth Vader, and the film ties up various plot and thematic odds and ends, it cuts much deeper. George, who has clearly read Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray", depicts how Anakin Skywalker's outer deformity grows out of his inner deformity. And George's perceptions here are on a higher level than the rest of the films. He appreciates that Evil (if, again, I may use the term) is often a strange combination of bad intentions and good intentions. That is a very 21st century perception, miles away from the original "Star Wars." And, surprisingly, there is even some wit here. At one point, a character arrives at a planet, proclaiming,'I have come in regards to the War." The alien replies,"There is no War here. Perhaps you brought one with you?" Ho, ho! Leave aside the whole question of highbrow and lowbrow. This is a great shaft of wit, period. If George had only written this one line, he'd deserve to live forever. This is, figuratively and literally, the darkest Star Wars picture and quite rightly so. The sadness and the sense of dark inevitability are oddly haunting in their way here. It is said that Japanese popular culture is obsessed with the Star Wars mythos. This is the film, in my opinion, that justifies the fascinationg. After writing a huge rant here I've chose to delete it all and replace it with something that is decent, relevent, amusing and that neatly sums everything up (Lucas take note) We watched the first 3 films. We cared about a mysterious force without explanation. We enjoyed hating Darth Vaders weezing. Harrison Ford was cool. We all wanted Liea in THAT bikini. We all wanted to own a light sabre. We all thought the cute fluffy things we're cute and fluffy. We watched 3 more films. We didn't care about some fandangled unexplainable force. We all hated General Grievousnesses wheezing. Harrison Ford didn't continue his decade long trend of appearing in bad films. We all wanted Padme to slap Hannakin. We all got a light sabre for christmas. We all thought the clumsy, jokey characters were clumsy and jokey. But that's not why this film is bad. It's the final fight scene of the final Star Wars film. Good vs Evil, we've watched 6 films just to see how one of our favourite film baddies turns from a whimsical, indecisive, unemotional freak into an all powerful, unforgiving yet emotional freak. And what do we get? Handbags at dawn....... "You're evil" "No! You're evil!" "Well you're eviler!" "Well you're evilererer!!!" We then realise that all along we actually know all the story and that we're watching a pointless cash-in. Still our light sabers and all that merchandise was pretty cool huh?… Expand

This movie is my favourite in the prequel trilogy. It reaches the emotional level the others fail to get near and the added dark 12 Rating element is exactly what was needed. Every base is covered to lead into Episode 4 and this is sure to give satisfaction to Star Wars fanatics.

Even with the cheesy lines it still makes it as one of the best movies ever.

The Revenge of The Sith is definitely the best of the "new episodes", but the third episode also contains the same comprehensive failure of making a Star Wars movie for Star Wars fans...Three short reasons: 1) The storyline is too comprehensive for one movie, or at least, things are moving too fast. You don't feel that you're part of the same amazing and well told story as you have in IV,V & VI at any time 2) The storyline is tailored together by a George Lucas who clearly care more about the visual effects than basic dialogues or monologues - they are in fact horrible at times. 3) Enough is said about Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker - but once more I have to say that that may one of the biggest casting-failures ever.… Expand

As a fan of the first trilogy, I'm still forced to call this episode the 'best' of the second trilogy. Which doesn't help it much. A feeble attempt to 'bring things full circle ("The circle is now complete."???). Even the special effects seem hokey compared to the original 3 films. The only good thing I can say about this is that it's the last film in this set.

When I was 7, I went to see the first Star Wars with my parents. From the moment the Imperial Cruiser came on the screen to the time when the Death Star blew up, I was engrossed in an adventure like none I'd ever seen. I cared for and liked the characters ... the story was interesting ... and everyone in the theater felt like they were passengers on a ride through the galaxy. These feelings continued until the end of "Return of the Jedi," and even though the acting wasn't Oscar-quality, the actors seemed to have a chemistry together and you could relate to their characters. But now ... well, Lucas has thrown all that away to show off his love for special effects. He somehow, somewhere, lost the knowledge that it was the story, not the effects, that drew in people to the series. It was characters we cared about that made us want to see how it all ended. He has now given us a steaming pile of crap that is focused more on the look, rather than the feel, of the film. He seems more interested in merchandising opportunities than telling a great story. A vast improvement over the fluffy episodes I and II. It reminded me of The Lord of the Rings; at times stirringly brilliant, at other times it's just sensory overload. I'm not sure what the haters were expecting from this movie--the myth, cult, and concept of Star Wars is greater than any of the films ever were. But nothing beats a good lightsaber duel, so sit back and enjoy it when Yoda gets medieval.… Expand

The only one of the prequels that I actually enjoyed. Its not without its faults, but it is still a fun and engadging movie.

Terrible. Chalkly dialogue; uninpsired acting; cartoonish special effects; fails to invoke any feeling. As a movie Episode III stands as a failure. As a series, the prequels succeed in nothing save some over the top effects. Why fight on a lava planet, with explosions, on friggin hoverboards with robots flying everywhere and rocky lava pouring down and imminent danger at every step...why not just fight a lightsaber duel in a simple room? WHY! Why the stupid, cartoonish chase scenes, great we know what CGI is capable of and frankly I dont care...The chase with Obi-wan and general greivous is freakin terrible. No suspense, I feel like I am watching the opening to a video game. Anakin - so he betrayed the republic, his friends, massacred children and comrades, and embraced a sketchy evil guy all because he THOUGHT that his wife might die? This guy is an idiot - and all he does is whine. I am sorry as a movie lover I am disapPointed as this is a poor film in every repect of the word (and I like cheese too if its done right - Judge Dredd is great) as a star wars fan this is a disgrace. Massively disappointing. What else can I say but don't believe the hype, and walk in expected one of the best movies ever, or even one of the best Star Wars movies ever. It's just another prequel, with some flashy action sequences, but the same lack of magic and paper thin characters and crappy dialogue as the last two. Maybe this one is even worse, because this is the one that was supposed to span the gap and make the first two mediocre films suddenly worthwhile, it doesn't. In either case. Probably the emptiest film I've seen this year, and certainly the most disappointing one. And again, on the hype, don't swallow it. All that early "it's so cool, this is the best Star Wars film yet!" commentary ultimately rings just as false as the self same pre-release hype and positive early word did the last two times around.… Expand

Everything you could possible ask for...AND MORE!

I was deeply offended by the review of The New Yorker; how can someone give the movie such a bad scores? Nevetheless Episode 3 is an excellent movie.

What film are all these lovers seeing, or are they just so Star Wars obsessed that they can't, or won't, see the painful and obvious faults in this (and previous) prequels. It's a bad film, there's no other word for it, it's just a bad film. Wish it wasn't, but it is, and unlike some fans I won't pretend otherwise or blind myself to that fact.

Good. Not great. During the opening space fight I found myself wondering how anyone could put so much obvious work into creating a bit of film that was so dull? But once Anikin really got down to the business of being evil, I actually felt something--some tension, excitement, dread. Christensen gave an uninspired performance, but I still liked almost all of the Anakin scenes, probably because he was generally acting opposite someone who could give the scene a bit of punch (McDiarmid, McGregor). Notable exceptions include his love scenes with Portman, which is a shame, since Anakin's love of Padme is supposed to be a major catalyst for his downfall. I'm also saddened by what happened to Padme in this film, and I don't mean her death. The virtues of the previous two movies were gossamer thin, but at least in them Padme did a few interesting things. In the final instalment she can do nothing better than gaze out windows, looking worried. She's little better than a tearful incubator. Still, there's plenty for the fans, lots of references to the original trilogy. Some of my favorite bits were the touches in costume and set design that recall (anticipate?) the look of episode IV (yes, we do see the side-bun hairdo.) This film does not redeam the fiascoes that came before it, but it stands on its own well enough. Mind you, it doesn't soar, but it certainly does stand.… Expand

All flash, no feeling.

What a piece of *&^@! I love Star Wars. I saw Star Wars at the Chinese theater in '77 with my dad on a Saturday afternoon and it was a life altering experience. This, on the other hand, is junk. Utter garbage. The story is thin, the dialog awful, the directing pitiful. Lucas needs to learn that he should neither write nor direct. Period. Empire was brilliant for the simple reason that he did neither. I wanted this movie to be better than it was, honest. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Don't buy into the hype. There is ZERO depth. George Lucas saved the best for last. Fun, exciting and poignant, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is the culmination of a saga 28 years in the making. The tragic cautionary tale of personal obsession and political tyranny was the perfect capper to the exciting new Star Wars trilogy and is the benchmark against which all future sci-fi/fantasy films will be judged. It lacked life. It was hard to get into the characters. I think many of the people that are voting this highly are remembering the action-packed ending and forgetting how poorly made the rest of it was.

Excellent final prequel movie, that really hits its stride after a weak opening sequence. After that its all dark and serious and emotionally powerful. Stunning effects. Lucas sets up the original Star Wars movie perfectly.

A great film with emotion and lots of great actors. Surprisingly, Hayden Christensen is excellent as Anakin. McGregor and McDiarmid do fantastically also. Portman has some bad lines, and her performance is not so good in this part of the saga. The effects are great, the story is good, music is stunning and the final duel is just awesome. 68??? is that it?? this film deserves to be up there with the best. this is easily THE best Star Wars movie and one of THE best for a long long time. It is absolutely vital that you see this film!

Just saw it. I agree, generally, with the posters who've given it a fair to middling review. The first 45 minutes or so are perplexing; they are bewilderingly, poorly, edited, and it's not clear why whatever is that is going on is going on. The dialogue throghout is consistently lame. The god-awful, "Obi-Wan says you're under a lot of stress" is also one of my 'favorites'. Anakin's fears about Padme-- the plot hinges on it-- are paper-thin and unconvincing considering you have a technological culture that can warp around the galaxy and has the medical knowledge to build a Darth Vader suit in about ten minutes. There's too much CGI. ( I didn't think I'd care for the CGI Yoda, but must admit that I did, however.) The first three movies were hokey and fun; the last three are not. Paplpatine is played over the top, but he is the only real actor in the film, and is without a doubt the most fun to watch on screen, although Obi-wan hits the right note a few times. Hayden Christiansen glowers his way through his transformation. Portman, although she doesn't do much, is nice to look at. The last 45 minutes of the mmovie are pretty exciting, however implausible much of the action is, and there are many scenes in the last half of the film that just touch greatness. There are also some laugh out loud bad ones-- Darth Vader as Frankenstein screaming "No!" is shockingly awful-- I half expected Palpatine to scream out "It's Alive!," at any moment. But just seconds before that, the arial view of him on the table is quite strong. The lightsaber battles, well, those are cool, right? A mixed film.… Expand

The opening half hour is quite poor - badly paced, with confused action and misfiring attempts at comedy. The movie then gets a lot better, and at times threatens to become very good - until the ending. Lucas shoehorns-in story elements at breakneck speed just to tie this film in with the original trilogy, an as a result it feels rushed. As mentioned here, Darth Vader's "Nooooooooo!" is so bad that it reminded me of Arnie's performance as Mr Freeze in that awful Batman movie. Very disappointing!… Expand

This movie had a great deal of gravity to it. It moved with a surety and purpose that hasn't been present since Empire Strikes Back. Terrific pacing and absolute knock out action sequences will make the original series action sequences seem slow by comparison. Ewan McGregor and Ian McDiarmand are fabulous in their roles. Hayden Chritianson has improved greatly, and a couple of admittedly clunky dialogue sequences don't get in the way of an admirably tight script. I would have like to have seen more of the secondary jedi, but I suppose that's the inner fan-geekiness in me coming out. More than anything else, it helps put the entire saga into context. It gives meaning to the adolescent romance in II, it elevates the tragedy of the little boy lost in I, it makes more poigniant the relationship between Luke and Obi-Wan in IV, and it really sets up redemption for Vader in VI. This was exactly what I was hoping for. I just wish there was more to come.… Expand

Way better than the last two, for sure. Here's where I think he went wrong with this trilogy: Anakin should've gone bad sooner, like at the end of the last movie, and spent this one hunting and murdering Jedi. Isn't that how Obiwan describes it in Ep 4? This might be a spoiler -- he doesn't hunt down anyone. Lucas gives him a good enough reason to turn to the Dark Side but I think he should've turned earlier. Is good anyway, though.… Expand

Something about watching Revenge of the Sith was one of the most acutely frustrating experiences I have ever had. At what point did George Lucas decide that it was all right to use the dialogue worse than that in High School Plays and Freddie Prinze Jr. movies? It was definitely better than the Clones and Menace, but the terrible cheese and overall misery of every scene with Padme (sp?) and most of those with Yoda make you wonder why he just couldn't hire a few mediocre writers to make the language a BIT more palatable.… Expand

very good flick to end the saga!

This film was everything I had hoped it could be, perhaps more. It has been playing on my mind since I saw it lst night and I shall be seeing it again this weekend.

Fabulous movie validates the first two in the prequel series and links the two trilogies together in a poetic and beautiful way. Anybody who claims to not like "Sith" really does not like Star Wars.

How could you not like this movie?

This is the best of all Star Wars. I actually felt sad, hate and angry all mixed up at the same time. G. Lucas is brilliant. I would never expected that the movies will be this dark. The scenes where all Jedis slaugthered especially the youglings are just too sad and unbelievable. I was so emotionally disturbed by the movie that right after watching it, I had to rush home and watch Episode 4: A New Hope to make myself feel better and that there is still hope !!!! This one is for sure better than Episodes One and Two. It has all the stuff that makes Star Wars great. Huge space battles, light saber duels, and lots of force powers. If this were on DVD and I was going to watch one Star Wars movie out of all six, this would be the one.

[***SPOILERS***] While Episode III is the best of the three prequels, that is a dubious honor considering the first two are worse than an IRS tax audit. Lucas commits the same "grevious" errors in spending all his time going wild with the CGI and spending no time on the atrocious dialogue or inspiring what is a solid cast to nothing more than wooden, stilted acting. Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan is one of two passable performances as we see the slightly mirthful and bemused roots of the old mentor from the original series. Ian McDermid's sleazy and seductive Papaltine/Darth Siddious/Emperor is so oily and comical it harkens back to the campiness of Episodes IV-VI. The rest of the cast seem either bored or embarassed with their roles, especially Hayden Christansen. This time he has traded a perpetual, petulant pout for a perpetual scowl, as if the road to Sith-dom is simply a galatic temper tantrum. Anakin's road to hell is paved with good intentions, but the sum of their whole doesn't seem enough to push the whiny Jedi over the line into the Dark Side. His panic over dark premonitions of Padmé's future are too vague, and he rejects Master Yoda's sage advice without even listening to it When he is granted a seat on the council as Palpatine's advisor, he snaps that he should be fast-tracked to Jedi Master instead of leaping at the honor the rest of the Council agrees to bestow. Halfway through the film Anakin whines to his wife that he "..isn't the Jedi he's supposed to be" which begs the question, what the heck is that supposed to mean? Lucas sloppily throws out the idea that Anakin thinks Obi-Wan and Padmé are fooling around behind his back, but it is such a throwaway line it has to be a result of the nascent Sith Lord's newfound paranoia. The only believable torment is the split in devotion Anakin feels towards Obi-Wan and the rest of the Jedi, and the father-figure role Palpatine manuevers himself into. The space battles and lightsaber duels are, as always, exciting moments in the film. Anakin's duel with his former mentor on the volcanic planet of Mustafar is very climatic, and I got shivers down my spine seeing the full extent of Anakin's defeat and his subsequent reconstruction as the black-suited head henchman of the Empire. His first filtered breaths are probably the best dialogue in the whole movie, and his clumsy first steps in the suit and mechanicaly-voiced rage at the full circle of Padmé's fate are chilling. 'Revenge of the Sith' is a decent movie, fun to watch as an action film, but hard on the ears and lacking in the campy attitude and well-constructed mythos of the original trilogy. I'll stick to the orginals, even with the unforgivable doctored Lucas resorted to for their release on DVD.… Expand

Very engaging film, dark, lightsaber action, droids with lightsabers, mace, obi wan, vader, and YODA!

Dialogue was still awful (particularly between Padme and Anakin) and it only really picked up any of the Star Wars magic for the last 30 minutes. The great characters and interesting locations of the first three films were sadly missing. The effects were great though, and it had a few good moments.

If you approach this movie accepting that it is a sci-fi action movie, I believe you'll like it quite a bit. If you are looking for Schindler's List or The Piano, this film isn't for you. There are some scenes I wasn't thrilled with (i.e, the notorious "I love you" scene), but I thought significant portions of this film were fantastic. I loved the "you must choose" scene and "The Showdown and "Separation" were very vell done IMO. I also agree with the guy that said you have to look at the series in its entirety (as one big 13 hour movie). If you do that, you'll find this movie has a lot to offer.… Expand

Mostly boring, it just drags on for about the first 75 minutes before it got interesting enough for me to wake up from my near sleep. [***SPOILERS***] What could have been great, will now go down in the annals of movie history as a flaming ball of half-assed crap, mainly because Lucas can not seem to write worth shit anymore, if he ever could. I swear a fifteen year-old fanficcer could write a better plot, better dialogue and more engaging action (and probably has) than anything I saw in the three playset-ready prequels Lucas shat out on the public at large. What exactly was the 'Revenge' in Revenge of the Sith? I'm not seeing it. Where is the promised revenge? Who exactly was the vengeful Sith? Anakin just came off as power-hungry(and a bit crazy), not vengeful. Palpatine was the same. So what was the revenge thing all about? And when did Padme turn into an idiot? She's supposed to be a powerful, savvy politician not a lovelorn wallflower. Anyone who has the guts to where that mini-dress she was wearing at the end while that pregnant, has got to have a little more spark to her! I just can't see her sitting back and watching all of this transpiring and accepting it. (Cry, another strong heroine destroyed.) And why did the Jedi Council completely blow off that the rediculously powerful Anakin was obviously emotionally agitated, something that no competent Jedi should be? (Not to mention boning his cookie on the side.) If I had been Yoda, I would have demoted him to paduan and spanked him with a lightsaber way before he got all snippy and glowery. And WTF with the dialogue? I mean Lucas has never been a great writer, but little to none of the lines had any of the creativity or fun or flair of the original trilogy. I guess I just wish some of these actors (who I know can do better) would have tried to deliver their spoon-fed plot blocks of spew with a little more personality. It's really bad when all the droids and aliens combined have more personality than the human actors! And dude what was with all the Spielbergian close ups? I felt like I was watching one of Stevo's 'eyes staring' vehicles. I really wonder if Lucas totally cracked in the making of this one and had to have Spielberg finish it for him. Honestly there was so much plot information in the very plain, servicable dialogue, that it made everything seem very rushed. I think Lucas could have made movies 1 and 2 about the rise of the rebellion, and Anakin's rise to power in the Republic and his need to maintain that power, not about Anakin's childhood. I read somewhere that a whole subplot about Padme helping start the rebellion behind Anakin's back was completely discarded. Now there I can see the betrayal, there I can see a need for revenge! Why did it have to turn into "Oh no she might die like my mommy, must learn special Dark Side power lost for thousands of years in a week". As far as I can tell, Anakin was already well on his way to the dark side before he learned that Padme was going to die, he just needed a little push from the Emperor to go against the Jedi Council, who were apparently living with their heads in their rectums that he was not a happy little force-wielder. Honestly, I didn't think that Hayden Christanson actually started acting as a character and not himself until the last third of the movie. But then I didn't really care about his fall from grace because I had never liked him much in the first place, except as a piece of eye-candy. This is probably what pisses me off the most. If I had been able to actually care about Anakin, I would have found this movie very moving, his transformation fascinating, but instead I didn't and when they finally put the helmet on him I just felt kind of empty and cheated and wishing Han Solo would come along and make it all better. That said the action sequences were fantastic, as expected, loved the fight against Dooku, loved the old-time horror/sci-fi homages (Frankenstein anyone?), loved the alternating lightsaber duels between Yoda and Palpatine and Obi-wan and Anakin, all the ship to ship stuff, and of course Obi-wan and his big balls taking on the universe. This movie could have been completely about Obi-wan and I would have been happy, but then again I am an Obi-wan shipper (though that lizard he was riding was obviously designed to be a toy, grrr). Anakin killing the Jedi-trainee children was a nice touch (younglings? wtf? just call them children!). Did you see some of those planets as they were killing off the Jedi on, couldn't they have gone more indepth into some of those characters? Jeez and I would have liked to see Boba Fett at some freaking point! And I definitely could have gone for more Wookie action. Vent vent vent vent... Sigh. I know writing isn't easy, but crimeny, I kept wanting to rewrite the dialogue as they were saying it thinking I (not the greatest writer in the world) could do better! Or maybe that was it, the movie seemed more like they were people reading lines off of big cards, not like they were characters who would actually say the things they said. Oh well, with any luck Serenity will be really good, and there will be a slew of well-written spin-offs from the relatively reliable Joss Whedon who actually seems to listen to his fans(although almost anything would seem fantastic set next to the crap that Lucas has put out again).… Expand

Fantastic film. Plot could have been slightly better and the actors could have been directed with a little more effort to get the best out of them. Other than that, I believe Lucas has brought to the screen an amazing film that ties everything together - including how yoda and obe-one have life after death. Well done Lucas, can't wait for the TV series.

Best of the prequels by far, and probably better than ep6 until the end which is marred by really clunky dialouge. Overall, great fun to see, if not the most indepth, plot-driven film ever.

This was a vast improvement over the previous two. There was still some dialogue that made me cringe in my seat, but Lucas seems to have finally developed some faith in his actors. The most effective moments in the movie involed shots where the actors just reacted to things, without saying a work they were able to reach greater emotional depths. I have to say that I enjoyed the darkness of this movie but felt that Anakin needed more screen time devoted to his turning from the good side of the force to the dark side. There were also a lot of B-horror movie camp involving him at the very end that should have been approached from a more realistic angle. But in total, this was a very good film and I may actually bother to see it in the theaters again.… Expand

Where is Mel Brooks when we need him? O Plain Yogurt, save us from the revenge of this thing! It looks like Fred Sanford's cyber junk yard was set in outer space and a B movie broke out. But that's not really fair to B movies because most of them are bad in a campy sort of way. This pretext for a Burger King marketing campaign is a disaster. Do your self a favor and find a movie with laughter, drama, action, or mystery. You'll need some kind of force to thith through this dud.… Expand

The best Star Wars movie ever! I don't understand why the other reviewers gave it such a low review. I mean come on! The movie has beat all sequels I've seen in the last 3 years. Awesome special effects.

Disappointing and unbelievable. Lucas doesn't have it in him to tell a good story anymore.

This is one of the best movies of all time. Non-stop action from beginning to end. This is the first 10 I have ever given out, and it is well deserved.

I remember being amazed at the original Star Wars movie (Episode IV: A New Hope). The special effects were well beyond anything people had seen before, which was by itself enough to be excited, but it also offered a comforting mythological good vs. evil feel-good in a whole new context, with good humor to boot. And it offered all of that with a dose of realism I hadn't focused on before in science fiction -- Luke's "car" was dusty and scratched rather than shiny and new like so many things in the fictional futures of the past; the characters get stuck in a garbage-disposal hell; robots run from new to well outdated models past their prime. In total, it was an exciting and fun, but certainly not profound, experience. Then something happened. What had seemed a simple story line with few enough characters to keep tabs on became a Tolkeinesk world of unmemorizable names and places and histories and the mood turned serious (read boring). I totally gave up and tuned out, until deciding to watch Revenge of the Sith. What a pleasant surpise to be excited again about the characters, and to see a new wave of delightful effects. I gave up worrying about all the ins and outs of the storyline, and looked for the lighter-hearted moments, ultimately enjoying the prequel. And, even though our now-trained eyes see the matting and other blatantly obvious special effects in the 1977 sequel, the one I'll always thing of as simply "Star Wars" is still the best of the series, reflecting the energies and passion of the younger George Lucas.… Expand

Well, after days of forcing my dad to buy me this DVD, I finally have it. This is the best Star Wars episode created by Geroge Lucas, though, a few improvements could not even be made. Oh, and the book of this novel. I could not put it down. The graphics of Revenge of the Sith are same as the ones today, as it was made in 2005. The audio was the best yet on the Star Wars movies. I was totally let down by this movie. I've waited too long for this trash movie to be this bad. I had high expectations for this film and that's my fault. They were too high apparently, since after viewing star wars 3, I'm disgusted. First, I feel that I must add that I like the star wars story, as a whole. I got myself ready for this movie. I read all the comics & saw the clone wars cartoons. So, I was ready. The movie starts off great. Nice sound, nice visuals, lots of action. I'm feeling, "things are good". For the most part, things stay good, only if you don't notice the details. In my opinion, it's the attention to details that make star wars such a great story. Lucas is not consistent with the "big" details. I really can't explain without ruining the movie. I'm upset that other writers, people that worked on the comics & cartoons, put in a lot of work to make great stories for the build up to this movie, only for the movie to mess things up! A lot of the acting is laughable, the Grievous battle was a joke, Anakin is evil at the blink of an eye, and the "higher ground" law didn't apply in episode one. I think this movie is Hollywood trash and not good enough to give it anything near a ten. I wanted more and I'm pissed that I didn't get it. This is a mainstream movie, so the regular people will love it. But, for those of us who remember the original movies, read the comics & novels, and saw the clone wars cartoon, this movie is the third worst star wars movie.… Expand

Whereas the original three films had a cheeky sense of ceomedic bravado that had you whooping in your seat for th hero, the three prequels are more like three Trekkies sitting up late at night dicussing the finer points of a Lithium Drive over Warp Speed - in other words, these films just take themselves way to seriously to be taken seriously. If you are an in depth Star Wars Geek (which is an actual catagory in Guiness world records) you'll agree, its got the best lightsaber fights of any Star Wars movie to date, though I did notice one thing: The CG is a little...um...Plastic. Like reading your girlfriend's diary, it's weird seeing events unfolding as you knew they would yet mangled just enough to make it all slightly unsavoury. Anakin gets bad at last, we get to see him put in the suit, yet the acting is terrible all round as we've come to expect and McDiarmid's ham-fest takes some stomaching. So while Sith is enjoyable and undoubtedly the best of the prequels, it still never reaches the heights you hope it will. The kids will love it though, which is the main thing.… Expand

Hahaha how can you say that the prequels compare dont compare to the originals when they are graphically more up to date and the battle scenes contian alot more action than all three movies of the oringinal combined. Though Id have to say the story in the originals were far better to these prequels Revenge of the Sith wraps up a triliogy that ended nicely and is well follwed up by the originals.

Easily the best of the prequels, rivaling the critically acclaimed Empire Strikes Back, SW III is the breathless climax we've waited for for 28 years, and it doesn't even come close to a dissapointment. RIch in CGI, while sometimes short on heartfelt acting performances, Revenge of the Sith is still everything the best popcorn flicks are made of. A glorious finale to the greatest sci fi saga ever created.… Expand

If anyone thinks they should listen to a word Lucas says, I dare any fan to watch the episodes in order I through VI (as Lucas says he intended all along). The plot holes will be large enough to drive an entire deathstar through.
