  • Starring: Agnes Bruckner, Jonathan Tucker, Rachael Leigh Cook
  • Summary: Based on a true story, Stateside follows the adventures of an outlaw rich kid who lands in the Marine Corps and, while on leave, falls in love with a crazy young actress/pop singer. This is a story of love that overcomes precarious trials and earns, for the spirit of youth, a heartfelt victory. (Samuel Goldwyn Films) Expand

  1. So unexpected and unpredictable and so full of tiny grace notes that its ultimate collapse seems almost irrelevant.
  2. 50
The performances are strong, although undermined a little by Anselmo's peculiar style of dialogue, which sometimes sounds more like experimental poetry or song lyrics than like speech.
  3. 50
Anselmo, basing his script on a true story, juggles more plots than a full season of "The O.C.," setting his cast adrift in a sea of soap-opera bubbles.
  4. Ultimately, Stateside ends up a diluted, scattered drama--less than the sum of its parts, but with an impressive cameo list.

I loved this movie. I thought that Jonathan Tucker was fantastic as the young marine. Extremely real. I can't believe all the professional reviewers who disliked it. Expand
